the best thing to do is to compare the wiring diagrams.
on our older gauges they made the bar graph instead of a needle.
If the input is the same to the gauge there is no reason it shouldn't work.
How about 10 red led's lighting up for every 1000 rpm lol

The widest you can go on a stock swingarm is 200. From what I've read, the 200 size works better for aesthetics than performance. Most guys go down to a 180 for better performance.

How about the 2007 Z1000 gauges? any wiring differences? i would love to get the analog tach back.
Iam also interested in this too I really hate the LED tach on my Z1000.

Iam in the process of purchasing a new clutch and noticed that the OEM 98-03 ZX900 clutch plates have the same part numbers as the OEM 03-06 Z1000 clutch but Barnett only offers a carbon fiber clutch kit for the ZX900 which should also fit the 03-06 Z1000.

I don't know if the Barnett carbon fiber clutch plates would be a good choice for the Z1000 as far as around town drivability goes ?

try it and see! :)
Its kind of an expensive try it and see. Since even at a discount parts houses the tach/speedo is over $450. I have been looking at my part book and shop manual and I think that there may be a chance of it working. Can anyone provide a shop manual pdf file for the 2007 Z1000 so I can at least do a wiring diagram comparison and a visual check of the backside of both the gauges ? I might take the risk with some additional information !

about the dash swap. i checked an 07 and the conector is different so its not plug and play. however you could match wires to the corect pin on the 07 dash by comparing wiring diagrams. you would also have to check that imput signals are the same, ie resistance curves of the fuel guage and temp sender. speed, tach and warning lights should be ok.

if anyone wants to donate a dash ill do it and then post a how to with step by step and pix. ha ha, no seriously! :poke:

I think that connector mismatch is enough to keep me from trying the conversion. Unless you could obtain the mating connector off of the 2007 Z1000 wiring harness the conversion would wind up being a hack job. As far as the input signals being the same you can compare part numbers for all of the sensors which is doable. I would just like to see a wiring diagram from a 2007 Z1000 shop manual before I even considered the job. I would be willing to bet that a lot of the 2007 Z1000 electronics is the same as previous years but I ain't willing to bet $450 !

Update for exhaust:

2001 ZX9R header
Modification required: Collector hits rear shock, needs to be slash cut and flipped 180 degrees.
(This is a great mod to do)

Do you know where a mating connector for the 2007 Z1000 tach/speedo can be obtained ?

I gave up on the idea of putting a 2007 tach/speedo on my 2003 but during the investigation I discovered that the 2007 Z1000 front sprocket is a 15 tooth unit. So for those of you who want to swap your original 16 tooth for a 15 tooth and would like to use OEM parts this part should work fine.

Hi,

I 've got a question, in the list posted in the first post of this thread it says that that all ZX10R rotors are interchangable with the Z1000 (2004 in my case)

I have bought a pair of ZX10R rotors, from a 2007 model. As shown in the picture

The question now is that these ZX10R rotors are completely flat and the rotors of my Z1000 are not flat, the centerpart of the rotor, where it is fitted on the wheel, is more inside the wheel than the braking part that goes through the caliper (don't know the exact words to explain it)

Does anyone here already tried to fit the ZX10R rotors on the Z1000 and how did you do that? Do i need some spacers ore something?

Thanks in advance :)
