SUSPENSION / STEERING

Forks
- 03-05 ZX6R
Mods Required: ??

Shocks
- 03-05 ZX6R
Mods Required: The '05 636 shock will NOT directly bolt in. The lower legs on the 636 shock are 2mm closer together, and there is a spacer inside the shock linkage which will not fit into it. Need to have 1mm milled out of the inside of each shock leg to get it to bolt in.

- 01-04(?) GSXR600
Mods Required: Minor clearance probs, slightly too short

- ZX-10R
Mods Required: apparently the same mod as the 636. See above.

Just updated the brake rotor and shock section. A guy pointed out today that the mount holes for the front rotors on ZX-10R's don't line up. My apologies for the misinformation guys, remember I only know what you tell me, so make SURE the information you give me is accurate. :thinkerg:

Updated info in the swingarm section.

Is it just the '05 636 shock that doesn't directly bolt in or is it all of them from '03 to '05.

I believe the '03-'04 bolts right in. As for the '05, you'll need to either mill out 1mm from the inside of the shock legs (which is what I did on mine) to get it to fit, or grind down the spacer which goes inside of the linkage, because the '05 shock legs are about 1.5mm closer together than the '03-'04 ones.

on the shock issue, i believe 03-04 shocks are a better mod anyway, the spring rate was to stiff for the 636 as it shipped from the factory, just happens to work quite well with the added weight of the z, i'm pretty sure the 636 switched spring rates in 05, not 100% sure about 04, but i have an 03 636 shock and it bolted right up and i'm 200 lbs no gear, sag set up perfectly and static was good, indicating proper spring rate

I really want to buy some Marchesini wheels made for a ZX9r to put on my Z1000. However, I want to be 110% positive the zx9 setup will work. I've tried comparing the microfiche diagrams for the zx9 rear wheel (2000-2003) against the z1000 rear wheel. Many of the part numbers are the same, but some are different. One in particular is the axle. Is this just an issue of the zx9r axle being a different length? As long as it's the same diameter, it shouldn't be a problem, right?

Who has actually test fitted both front and rear zx9 wheels on a z1k?

jeremy,
do you know how much preload you have. I'm at the same weight and just bought an 03 636 shock. Also wondering what settings you used for compression and rebound dampening.

thanks

Check the bearing p/n's. If they are the same, then the axle diameter is the same. I think the spacers may be a little different. Remeber, when it comes to part numbers, a different finish, tolerance, etc could change a whole number. Look for the givens....
