z1000newbie;

I know that I am past redline but haven't hit the rev limiter in top gear yet. I've been thinking of going up one tooth in the rear to see if there is more in it.

There is a reason God put rev limiters on our bikes. That's where the shift point is.

:killingme :killingme :killingme :killingme That's good. I don't think a ride goes by where I don't take my RPM's up to around 10k at least. I've got problems, I know. But man I love speed.

i understand that..and trust me i have had mine past red line and bouncin off the limiter...but i feel the z1000 is a little sloppy when the speed reaches 150.

i had mine around 160 the other day and must of hit a small bump in the road...the front end started to shimmy and though it was my time to hit the dirt...

had a zx6r before this bike and at 160 it was like a rocket on rails...never got nervous...

Z1000 is a good bike though..very pleased!!

Top Speed

I have had my 04 ZX10R regestering 189mph(we all know they don't give ture readings) but to see it gives you the willies. It will read 104 in 1st, 154 in 3rd and 189 in 5th. 6th is for overdrive, no faster but less RPM's. And we do have lots of good back roads for this kind of fun here in south Mississippi.:alcy:

I live along a state route country road that runs about 35 miles in a straight line. My Z will reach 154@11500 rpm in 5th gear Ive had it to 166 in 6th where it reaches what seems to be top speed for me a 235lb rider. I have a Muzzy 4-1 and a pc3. I don't make a habit of going to much over 150 cause after that the Z just doesnt feel safe. Well at least not as stable as a 04 r6 ~the only other thing I can really compare it to

I got the speedo to zip through 130 mph indicated. I was between flat cornfields with side gusts...started to wander.

BC

I hit an indicated 145 once, and it still had plenty left. I rarely break 100 unless I'm passing someone/thing. The lack of wind protection makes the urge for highspeed runs a little less desireable.

you guys are something. i would never drive a motorcycle that fast. what would happen if a tire had a blow out ? you could kill yourself !!!! but i guess we could talk all day about " WHAT IF " you all take care and please drive safe !! owner of a 2005 z1000. my top speed 75 miles an hour. scott the bad speller . corona hills california

No one needs to drive that fast, especially on the road... But its that thing... You just can't help to know..

speed

It's a fast bike,I had mine up to 145 on the spedo still pullin strong, but the acceleration is where where it's at,I was at a car show last week and a guy left when I did in his corba rep. it had a built 351 in it ,the Z passed him with ease,he was really rowing that boat...........

Some bikes are like old hotrod. One day you are siting at a light, you look left and then right. You ease on the throtle feeling the power in your foot, you don't know what it is,so you push a little more, and then the power hits the asphalt.and off you go.You don't want to hurt the transmission so you shift etc.......
Some people know what that power is,and they don't have money to buy that hotrod,so they buy a bike!:AR15firin :AR15firin :AR15firin :AR15firin :AR15firin :headbang:

Sounds like me, after 3 kids I left Mustangs and returned to bikes. Okay guys, I hit 60 after the powdercoating work...

...on the rear wheel!!! :headbang: :headbang: :headbang:

Scott James, you have an atribute I am yet to obtain. I can not only do 75 on my bike. It's just too much of a rush. Perhaps as I continue to age things will slow down. I haven't noticed too much change yet though. Later:alcy:
