Hello all. I am looking for a rear rack for my 650. One that I can use two up. I've been doing two and three day camping trips and I would rather take the bike. I plan on putting a cooler on the rack and packing in that. The cooler and the saddle bags will give me enough room. And then I already have my cooler for beer and eats!!
I would rather make a rack so it would fit my needs. Does anyone have a setup they could take some pictures of so I can get an idea of how to make it? I am not creative enough to come up with an idea from scratch. Hope to get some help on this.

I did do a some looking around when I had my 650. I never found anything 650-specific, so I ended up with generic saddle bags. The more you are willing to spend, the nicer the equipment, of course. For the few weekend trips I did on my 650, I used my generic saddle bags, a small tail bag and a backpack. If you are riding two up, I think you wouldn't be able to accommodate much. I don't carry passengers, but I think it might have been a problem with my saddle bags and a passenger at the same time. You could always go with a set of small saddle bags and have your passenger carry the backpack. It's always a challenge doing trips on a smaller bike.

I found a used renntec rack and added a cutting board to it to make it larger. It's held up very well. Mounts to the two big subframe bolts under the seat of my '06.

I bought a Honda Recon 250 front rack off ebay and fabbed it to suit me needs...it is set up for rider only, but the brackets could be modified to go 2-up. Size would work well for what you are talking about

@jeep, I like it, but do you have to modify the tail to fit this? I have the north American unit. I dont have grab rails.
@ blue ninja, this is perfect. I would imagine you could get the rack for a good price. The only problem I see with my bike is with the 12's and up there isn't the two covers to remove to access the subframe. I'm thinking I will have to mount the rack from under the tail.

I had to modify the two plastic side covers that sit under the rear seat to allow a single bolt to thread into the rear tail. The bolt is already there in the tail as if grab handles were there. I unscrewed those two bolts. Drilled a hole in the plastic. Slid the new bolt that came with the kit.

Note - you will need to get spacers to put inside the plastic in between the plastic and the tail. This prevents the plastic from cracking and indenting in when tightening the bolt. I would use blue threadlocker as well. Other than that. No changes were needed for the 2012. Mine is USA model too.

I really don't want to cut my tail. I like to be able to take it back stock as if nothing had ever changed. That's a line I don't like to ever cross. I don't know what to do honestly.

I cut my plastics. They are removable. I ordered two new pieces to swap back for when and if i sell the bike. You can get both side piece already painted for less than $100 bucks new plus shipping.

^^^ that's not too bad. I thought it would be more. I probably will not out any bags on this bike. After I get the boss lady a newer car I think I will pull the plug on a Dyna low rider. That bike draws me in harder than any bike has in a long while.
