i have heard a few of you guys say that you made your own plate mount, and i was wondering how you guys mounted it. if someone could shed some light on my situation(pics would be helpful) i would greatly appreaciate it. i have the tools and metal to make my own but no clue how to mount it short of, god forbid, bolted to the diff cover. i for some reason feel closer to a part if i make it custom myself, and this is one i think i could do. thx in advance.

I think most of the guys are mounting the license plate bracket to the bottom shock stud. There is an acorn nut, a lock washer and an 1/8" flat washer. The bracket replaces the flat washer. I designed a horizontal bracket because Mass. does not allow vertical. I made the tongue long enough so the license plate would tuck behind the drive pumpkin. You could turn the plate mount vertical and weld it on this design if you wanted to. You could also cut an angle at the end of the tongue and rotate it upwards on the stud so the plate would be higher. I am going to try to attach my CAD drawing.

That is a really cool design. I don't have access to metal working equipment, so I needed to keep it simple. My brother-in-law is having someone at work weld mine for me. He is going to use 1/8" stainless steel. I put the 2 wings on the side of the tonque to make it a bit more stiff. I wasn't sure if the wind would have an effect on the bracket. Have you had any issues with wind moving the bracket? When I get this made and on the bike I will post some pictures.
Where do you live in Quebec? I used to canoe race in Shawinegan and Mt. Laurier. I deer hunt in Nicolette.

Rem27.....I'll have to give you feedback only once spring has arrived, everything is covered with snow here. I've just installed all my goodies a few weeks ago. But when the bike runs on idle, the support doesn't vibrate at all. I live near Repentigny on the north shore of Montreal. If you used to go to Shawinigan, you passed in Repentigny (highway 40).

still needs some work but i got busy this afternoon at work. as soon as i can get a damn idea with what i want to do with the mount, cant do a whole lot the tools you see are about all i got cutting wise, and i got a decent welder to join them together. And if the weather will dry up a little bit with out bottoming out the theromoter and i can get the mesurments to not shred my saddlebags. ill be able to finish this little project up.

on a side note. just from the mentioning of this topic, i have 4 more already requested by friends if it works out. so i might make some side money off this lil project! WOOT!

i put some small squares in the corner of the bracket along with some extremly ugly Flux core welds (to later be shaved out for some ultra smooth curavature in the corner)

i cut where the dotted lines are and redrilled the mounting hole. i originally planned for the tag to come all the way out behind the saddlebag for fear that police that couldnt see the tag completly would pull me over. After test fitting it on the motorcycle i decided that it was a bad idea, the slightest touch of the motorcycle and it would begin a mind jarring back-and-forth movement at blinding speed, much less the thunder of the bigshots. so i cut it down some. and no more vibration at all. the extra bracing of the squares and interior welds didnt hurt either.

and finaly installed. just gotta figure out how im gonna shred the mudflap now. im thinking about leaving just enough plastic to hold the turn signals up. i would get the relocater plate or some of the cool rim o the fender jobs like some of yall have but im broke, tis why i had to fab my own 29.95 buy it now tag mounts from ebay. and i had fun doin it.

ill take some pics of the horrid welds and how i plan to fix em sometime in the next week or two. its gettin back cold around here.

If you are gonna keep the stock turn signals, check out this mount. $31.95 at Phat Performance.

The bracket I got from Ebay was thicker than the one you made, how does yours hold up on vibration? I think mine is like 1/4 inch.

im not sure how thick of sheet meatal i used, it was maby the thickness of 2 or 3 license plates, but it dosnt shake hardly at all. but it might be from the saddlebag sittin on top of it. but i did some extra bracing on the inside of the corner, the ones from ebay dont have any. all in all saddlebag FTW

I got mine off of ebay also and purchased a chrome led frame and mounted it to the shock bolt and it really doesnt shake at all. Even after a whole riding season, i figured it would bend out a little but it hasnt moved at all. I am very please with the purchase. The one i bought is 1/8" stainless steel. I was skeptical at first about its durability but it has held up very very nice! Just my .02.......... :smokin:
