Just got my new seat from Baldwin Motorbike Saddles and it is UNREAL! :headbang: I had previously posted here http://www.RiderForums.com/zr-7-accessories/80682-seat-upgrade-coming-suggestions.html about choosing a custom seat maker and could not be more pleased with Loren Mock's customer service and the results. I contacted him about five times via email to get information and ask questions; he always answered in the evening of the same day. I just sent him five pictures of me on the bike and an idea of what I wanted. He made a recommendation and I just went with what he said to do. I shipped my seat to arrive the day before my scheduled production date (May 8) and he shipped it out on Saturday, May 10. I received it back via UPS on May 14, so it was only gone a week total. I will say I was a little nervous about what it would look like and how it would feel, but it came back EXACTLY - no exaggeration - EXACTLY how I wanted it to look and feels BETTER than I thought it would. It's like you know you're sitting on a seat, but there's no "there" there, if you know what I mean. I'm very pleased and excited.

For reference, this is verbatim what I ordered, "2001 Kawasaki ZR-7s Custom Solo GT Saddle - Vinyl cover with black ostrich embossed rider's seating surface and black leather grain embossed vinyl for balance of saddle, with Black top stitching. Seat height +1" and riding position 1" to the rear. Gel insert and orthopedic memory foam in rider's position."

This is what I got:

Now I paid for vinyl, but I can't believe this seat is not genuine leather AND ostrich. The feel of it is unbelievable and it even smells like real leather, like a brand new pair of Tony Lama ostrich boots! All of the stitching is perfect; I can't find one fray or flaw. My GT seat is is 17 inches across at the widest point and all of the 14 inch depth is usable because the seat is nearly flat- he took the forward slope out of the seat so I could stay away from the tank. Maybe from the pictures the slight relief in the center of the seat can be seen, which takes pressure off my middle. I like the last picture, which shows how the shape of the seat is a perfect complement to the tank.

Highly recommended. Plan on trying it out this weekend and will report back. I can already tell it was made for long distance, which is what I wanted. I will quote Ferris Bueller, "It is so choice. If you have the means, I highly recommend picking one up." :righton:

At today's exchange rate, 5508 pesos + plus shipping built on your stock seat pan. Only 3888 + shipping if you don't want the gel pad.

Almost looks like a RDL seat!
You could say that, but the shape is more streamlined and sporty, IMO. I rode to town and back today and I am very pleased so far. The extra inch up and back makes a big difference in my leg room and control of clutch and brake. It just feels better to stretch out a little. The crazy part is you feel like your sitting in one little spot, so you try to scoot back, but then you realize you can't scoot back; you're already in the sweet spot. It's like your mouth is still numb from the dentist and you can't feel your lips or cheeks so you better not chew or you might bite a hole in your mouth. So what I'm saying is you can't feel your butt on the seat. There's no "there" there!

"function over form" is a very diplomatic way of saying, "never mind how funny it looks, it's comfortable" LOL

:agree:O.K,...sorry, but I noticed you didn't deny my interpretation...LOL. Then again, I had a girlfriend once that was kinda wide around the hip area, flat on top, and didn't look great on a bike but, really great to ride.....with!

It's also not as sleek as Baldwin's own sport seat, which you can also have customized to your liking. This is a different class of seat, a class including the Russell Day Long and Rick Meyer touring seat, IMO. From what I could see on the Web, Baldwin has the best combination of style and performance. I've seen a couple of Corbin seats on other bikes, but really can't say anything good or bad. I heard too many negative comments on the Web to consider Corbin for myself.

I can assure both of you, and all those visiting this thread, that the seat is gorgeous in form and function. It is custom for me with the +1 movements, so I can understand if the overall flatness causes the seat to look odd. Loren has some super custom seats on the website that make you wonder how someone sits on them at all. But customer gets what he asks for with BMS. All I can say is I love my seat and I got exactly what I wanted.

I will also add that I have a new level of confidence on the bike since I got the new seat. This weekend, I found myself pulling off hard braking and turns that I couldn't do before. It's like I'm better planted on the bike and have more stability and control with the combination of seat firmness and grip and ride height. A couple of times I had to stop myself and say, "Be more careful," because I could make directional changes faster than I could look around me to make sure the coast was clear.

I don't have any doubt the GT seat will deliver long distance comfort and control. Anyone needing in a seat what the GT claims to offer won't be disappointed.

PS to TJ: I don't plan to sell or trade this bike. :righton:

Baldwin GT gives you wiings!

The important point is YOUR happy with it. (Everyone has different taste in style/asthetics) As far as comfort goes, I'd wager it's much more "comfy" than a stock and/or even my Corbin. I'd be hard pressed to do a 500 mile day on mine without some discomfort, and like you mentioned, it makes maneuvering easier with proper seating position and confidence. With the new comfortable seat, and the added luggage/bags and trunk, ya just need a cup holder and stereo. A Kawi-wing...because you'll be kawi-ing lots of stuff in style and comfort now.

Thank you for the :righton: vote for Baldwin! When I get Loren to build a seat for MY Connie, I just might do that! :) Wait a minute... sorry; I thought this was the dream bike thread.

I thought about running up to that Land of Oz Beemer rally next weekend- 500 miles. You ever been to that, Rasmith? Just down the road from you.

DaddyFlip, did you do the Airhawk addition before or after your new seat was purchased? As well, what model Airhawk did you get?

Looking back at my records, I ordered the seat on April 10, received on May 14, ordered the Airhawk on July 1, first mentioned the Airhawk here on July 4 http://www.riderforums.com/general-zr-7/80169-cost-freedom-open-road-8.html#post916257, then took off that morning on a 10-hour trip to south Texas. I ordered it (Airhawk R, BTW) as a precaution because I had not ridden that long/far before and I didn't know how my butt would respond. I don't use it on the 7 anymore, but couldn't live without it on the Triumph factory seat.

Thanks! I don't have the luxury of a custom saddle like yours (I'm still running stock) but there's an AirhawkR for sale around here for about $60 so I was debating the merits. I've done 10hr days on the stock saddle and by about 8-9hrs I don't want sit back down when I have to stop 'n stand at a traffic light.
