Hey all,

Recently got a Z and have been looking into shock swap - I understand the 05/06 ZX6R shocks fit (with maybe a little modification) - but has anyone ever tried an aftermarket ZX6R shock? I have the opportunity to pick up a ZX6R Hyperpro shock for around $350, so I am tempted to try it. Any advice/ideas?

I just saw your post, did you buy the shock, and did it fit? I used a shock off an 07 zx14 bolts right on and is sprung for my weight.

Before you buy a ZX6R shock have you considered the weight of not only yourself but more importantly the weight of each bike - ie Z1000 compared to ZX6R? I installed a ZX10R shock on my z1000 and have found that the spring rate is too light on for the z1000.

Yeah, I have - My initial plan was to get a ZX14 shock as they are heavier bikes and are sprung closer to my weight from what i have read. I weigh aroung 100kg/220lbs so not the lightest - However if i got a decent aftermarket zx6r shock I would prob respring it.

Didn't end up buying the shock. Still think its available though - still might end up trying it out. I may look at the zx14 shock - what weight is it sprung for?
I think it was sprung for 225lb.

Your looking for the spring rate of the shock. The spring rate of the zx14 is the same as the racetec spring I would have bought if it were not the correct spring for my weight. The springs that I ordered for the forks were calculated by my weight not the weight of the bike. If you go to ractec's site they have a calculator so you can figure out the spring rate you need. Racetec's calculator may calculate in the bikes weight when they tell you what spring you need for your body weight. That said when you get the spring rate you need it doesn't matter what bike you get the shock from as long as the spring rate is correct.
