Silver bullet??? Umm..sir, I hate to break the news, but any color ZRX would turn your bullet from stud to dud in about 2 seconds flat!!

And Mr. Bozeman....what say I??? I say :~ :~ :~ :~

GREEN all the way!!! It ain't a true Eddie Lawson replica if it ain't green!!! :)

I have a green 1100 and a green 1200 sitting in my garage right now and they both will SMOKE ya'll red and black people! :) Mwaa hahahahaha

OH, hey, have ya'll seen the spools that Chris is selling over on the ZRX site? I just got them and they are COOL!! They alleviate the "no tied down spot" problem.

Regardless.....GO GREEN!

Sorry about your choice

Tonight the Kawasaki dealer gave me a good deal I couldn't turn down. I never realized how addictive a bike would be.

Jonathan,

Let me just be the first to give you my condolences on your choice of bikes :~

Ya should have gotten the FZ-1, it looks so much better than the REX and is designed with modern technology. :~

And all this talk about red/green/black ZRXs won't matter much when I'm looking at you in my rear-view mirror. :~

No seriously though, congrats on the new wheels. I know what you mean about it being addictive. It's a good thing I live in Sunny SoCal.

I did the same thing you did, dumped my ZR-7s on a turn in some gravel. It was sad having it totalled, but it opened up the door for my FZ.

Riding a bigger bike does mean you have more responsibility now. Go to a Track school and learn how to handle that thing right and break any bad habits you may have already developed. Some people spend years riding and don't realize that they have limited the "joy" of riding by never learning all the skills to ride a bike well.

With the additional HP the ZRX puts out (almost as much as the FZ) you better make sure you handle that thing correctly the next time you encounter the infamous "gravel in the turn".

Hey Netlore, my ZRX pumps out 123.4 hp on the dyno!:~
I watched an FZ-1 strain to churn out 114 hp on the same dyno. I do have the basic jet kit, K&N, and slip-on but we all know that doesn't make that much difference.:D By the way, I'm riding down to Paso Robles this weekend. Is that anywhere near where you live?

CrazeeCooter,
Looks like you and him/her both need to go check out Ivan's Performance Products like I did for my FZ. I haven't had a chance to dyno it yet, but I've got a Slip-On and his Kit . . estimated HP is about 131 hp +/- 1-3 HP from what I've heard. I'm looking for a place to dyno mine, but I would certainly put it up against your REX on the Dyno. :~

Maybe once you modify your air-box (again check out Ivan's site) you will give me a run for my money. Off course I could then get a full exhaust and get another 7+ hp :~ But who really needs more than 130 hp on the street ? Even on the track it's nice.

The REX does have more torque, but I would expect that from a bigger engine. What I wouldn't expect is the way power tapers off so quickly. I used this Motorcycle Analyzer and did some quick research using your ZRX1200R with 123.4 HP and I estimated 84.8 lb-ft of torque and my FZ1 with Ivan's Kit/Slip-On/15-tooth front sprocket (est. HP 131.2 est Torque 73.7 lb-ft). Here's what I found using a rider about my size (180#)

ZRX beats the FZ1 off the line:
ZRX: 0-30 mph in 1.35 sec. FZ: 0-30 mph in 1.38 sec.
ZRX: 0-40 mph in 1.79 sec. FZ: 0-40 mph in 1.82 sec.
ZRX: 0-50 mph in 2.20 sec. FZ: 0-50 mph in 2.22 sec.

ZRX: 0-60 ft in 1.86 sec. @ 41.68 mph
FZ: 0-60 ft in 1.86 sec. @ 40.96 mph

ZRX: 0-100 ft in 2.42 sec. @ 54.98 mph
FZ: 0-100 ft in 2.43 sec. @ 55.15 mph

Then the FZ quickly catches up:
ZRX: 0-60 mph in 2.65 sec. FZ: 0-60 mph in 2.63 sec.
ZRX: 0-70 mph in 3.43 sec. FZ: 0-70 mph in 3.08 sec.
ZRX: 0-80 mph in 4.25 sec. FZ: 0-80 mph in 3.92 sec.

ZRX: 0-330 ft in 4.62 sec. @ 84.67 mph
FZ: 0-330 ft in 4.55 sec. @ 89.58 mph

And Passes: :~
ZRX: 0-90 mph in 5.09 sec. FZ: 0-90 mph in 4.58 sec.
ZRX: 0-100 mph in 6.43 sec. FZ: 0-100 mph in 5.55 sec.

ZRX: 0-500 ft in 5.89 sec. @ 95.38 mph
FZ: 0-500 ft in 5.75 sec. @ 101.80 mph

ZRX: 0-660 ft in 6.99 sec. @ 104.39 mph
FZ: 0-660 ft in 6.77 sec. @ 112.08 mph

ZRX: 0-1000 ft in 9.07 sec. @ 117.42 mph
FZ: 0-1000 ft in 8.72 sec. @ 125.54 mph

ZRX: 0-1320 ft in 10.88 sec. @ 124.58 mph
FZ: 0-1320 ft in 10.40 sec. @ 134.45 mph

Basically, you'd have me for about 300 ft and then I'd walk away and you'd wonder why you 1164 cc bike got beat by a 998 cc bike :) "Does he have a turbo charger?" "Is he using Nirto?"

Okay, I figured I'd better back up my theory of why I see most ZRX's in my rear view mirror.

Anyway, Paso Robles is about 3 hours North of me. We're trying to plan some kind of ride for this weekend but we're all playing it by ear.

Once again, I'd like to send my condolences to the ZRX owners for there purchasing decisions

(I'm kidding, the ZRX rocks and gives the FZ a good run for it's money. I just prefer the styling of the FZ)

New to me

So 0-60 for your two bikes is 2.6 seconds. Wow, there are a few supersport racing bikes who would like to know your secret. 2.6! come-on...maybe the bike could do it, but you would have been thrown off from the wicked wheelie first. Getting back to the most important debate of the day....Silver on any bike is the fastest. They don't make ZRX's in silver because as soon as you crank the engine you would be over the speed limit. A Silver ZRX could beat a green one without turning on the engine, just the driver pushing. A silver ZR-7 against a blurple one....well maybe I would lose because if I looked over to see the blurple I might not be able to go on....damn blurple, now there's Green stuff everywhere....(Sorry blurple people eaters, don't hurt me :~ )

Take care everyone, and enjoy your new wheels, I'm sure you'll have an awesome time...I also strongly suggest an advanced drivers course....I have a buddy who does the same course every year (for 5 now)...this year I'll be joining him....you never stop learning. Fianally some nice weather--I'm outta here.

Uh, Most of those supersport racing bikes should be able to beat that 2.6 secs. 60 mph is chicken feed. you don't even have to shift out of first. If you look at the 1/4 mile times, you'll see that the only way to get those sub 11 sec. times is to get to 60 mph in at least 2.6 secs.

Check the mags and the numbers. I did this with a Motorcycle Analyzer the takes quite a few things into account. Do I actually have the skill to pull off that sub 11 sec quarter mile time ? Probably not, nor have I tried. I have seen time slips from others who have. But we're talking about the bikes here, not the rider.

Also, based on some technical research a bunch of us have done on the FZ1OA, your right . . silver is technically faster, but my wife loves the blue :)

to all of you zrx owners; how the wind force compares to zr-7s at 100 mph?
Tomek
It is about the same, except that 100 mph happens real fast on the ZRX. Seriously, though, I'm still breaking mine in so I haven't gone over 80-85 yet. And I really can't say for the 7s because I have the naked 7 with a Rifle fairing. Tom

I dunno Stan, we've all seen some pretty fast bikes sitting on a kick stand with a guy standing next to it that looks "race ready" and doesn't have the skills to really even have a bike like that on the road.... but I think I understand that you're talking of folks that can ride (instead of just "pose").

Exactly, I was using the Motorcycle Analyzer to take out all the rider variables. I mean, I haven't heard of anyone actually get a 10.44 Quarter mile on the FZ, but Motorcyclist has it doing a 10.57. That's pretty close my numbers and you have to consider that they are using a stock bike.

BTW, The stock ZRX did it in 10.70 secs.

ZREX vs FZ1 -
Looks like you guys could use one of those dyno-racer units like they have at bike week. They strap down two bikes side by side. The owners are riding the bikes and there is a 1/4 mile drag style light tree on each side. Go on green, and the machine registers the speed and the 1/8 mile and 1/4 mile times and top speed. It's a sweet and safe way to race head to head on your bike without worring about the asphalt.

Hmmmm

Is it just me, or does "Super" Stan's avatar have him looking like he's wearing a yellow cape? Maybe that's why his bike is so fast. According to a 2001 test the ZRX 1200R hada 0-60 of 2.9 and 1/4 mile at 10.85-113.4 horsies and top speed of 149 but that might only be because it was a super slow green :~
As for the FZ 0-60 in 2.7 (guess you weren't so far off  ) 1/4 mile in 10.62 and 125 horsies...top at 154 mph, and it was blue.

At this point in time I would like to draw all attention to the fact that someone with a different coloured (Canadians put U's everywhere) bike voted silver as king of colours....I would like to have a moment of silence for this unprecedented event......

Thank you, please return to your regularly schedule surfing.

ZRx vs. ZR& windblast

Hi Tomek,
I have a naked Blue ZR but have ridden my friends 2001 ZRX.
I have had my ZR to 85 on the highway and the windblast was
pretty bad, mostly due to the jacket I was wearing. The same day I rode my friends ZRX,took it up to 95 MPH,only took about 2-3 seconds to get there from 65-70. The wind does not hit you as low(on the stomach) but it does hit you in the chest and shoulders. I am 5'11" and about 240lbs.
I recently got my Joe Rocket Phoenix jacket and this wind is barley noticable.

Okay everyone...it's time to remember that we are all friends here and we are all here because we love the joy of riding regardless of what one another ride. Now, just because someone chooses to ride another bike whose hp may or may not be more, doesn't matter. What does matter is that ......

That's actually me in one of the new Laker warm-ups, The back is yellow and purple. Very sweet looking. That was right before the Lakers spanked the Spurs the first time.

Those are with stock bikes. I did the analysis with my modded FZ and CrazeeCooters modded ZRX. That would explain the difference in the numbers.

Because the "Color Wars" also exist on the FZ1OA, myself and another few Engineering types did some research. If you look into the physics of color and light, Silver should be the fastest color. The light should actually give it a little extra help ;)

The head-to-head dyno for Quarter miles sounds really cool. I'll have to be on the look out for one of those.

zr7chic . . When Bell Bottoms and Afros REALLY come back in style . . I'll consider that fat, retro looking, Eddie Lawson wanna-be ZRX as my steed . . until then . . I'll keep my
FZ-1 StreetFighter :~

Nice to see

It's good to see that "Super" Stan is (like me) scientifically oriented. I can see that the silver wouldn't absorb the sun like other colours, but would a "cooler (and cooler may I add)" bike be faster? Perhaps black would be fastest at first because it doesn't take as long to warm up, but then the silver bullet would blow its doors off (see your green and black bikes don't have doors left after the silver bullet went by), the silver bike, like the General Lee is so fast it doesn't need working doors :~ :D Ok that's enough of that, I'll let super-science Stan the man explain why silver rules, once and for all.

BTW, I think Dylan can take on anyone in a green ZRX :)
