Z750S Fairing removing

I wanted to remove my fairing and decided to take a few pictures as I was doing the job. Hopefully it will help some that are (like me) mechanically challenged.
It took me about 30 minutes to remove the fairing, and as much to put it back.

To do the job, you will need few household tools:
A fresh pack of cigarettes :smokin: :smokin:
A beer
A good movie for the wife and kids :righton: :righton:
2 philips screw drivers. one short and one normal.
10mm wrench
An allen wrench (don't know the size)
and some loctite when puting everything back in place.

First you must remove the 2 screws on each side of the fairing with the allen wrench.
Then you remove the right and left covers on each side of the control panel.
You will be using the allen wrench again. The other attach piece is a plastic rivet.
You need to push in it's center with a small object. It's center will go inward. Then it can be remove.
Now you can remove each mirors with the 10mm wrench. The front screw first, then the one in the back.
After removing the mirors, All you have left are those protruding incerts.
You will have to move your fairing over them on each side. Be careful and don't apply too much force on the fairing.
It is time to remove the fairing from the headlight assembly.
Remove the 4 screws (2 on top shown on the picture, and 2 underneath) using
the 10mm wrench.
All its left to free your fairing from the bike is to remove the 2 electrical wires going from the bike to each turn signal.
Un-clip the quick disconnect. This might be a bit tricky. I used a very smal flat head screw driver to separate the males from the females.
Now that the fairing is removed, you can do a deep clean of the bike and check any loose screws.
Time for a :smokin: and a beer before finishing the job.
It is really not too hard of a job.
The only glitch I came up with was to re-install the plastic rivets.
After a laborious 15 minutes playing with it, installing it, removing it, scratching my head and a couple of smokes, I realised I had to pull the inside out before inserting it.
I hope you can understand looking at those pictures.
Nice guide, the problem I had when doing this was one of the nuts holding the mirrors on was stuipdly tight and dificult to get to with a big ratchet.

also was wondering why you posted screen shots of your pictures instead of the actual pictures.

Yes, I found the same problem with the rachet. So I used a wrench instead. It is harder to move around, but will fit in better.

I used the print screen because this is the fastest way I know to down size a picture I can post on this site. I use to used Picasa, but it took too long. Now I use "print screen" on my keyboard, then open it in "paint", color what I need to color in that program, et voila, and its sized to download in our forum.

fair enough, if you hold alt while taking the screenshot it will only capture the active window.

several screws and bolts were obscenely tight, and started to strip. the worst was the screw for the bracket holding the rear break line, I ended up having to take a hammer and chisle to it to bang it loose. I think I may und up investing in an impact driver.
great pics mate.

just what i was needing, cheers
Your bike needed deep cleaning? Did you go off road with it? :~

Hello Vera, nice to talk to you again.
No, just here, with all the coal trucks, the rain is dirty.
This morning, I was trying my new Balistic 5.0 pants (very warm) and my new silk glove liners (warm but not below 50). So I went to work, and there was some thick fog. Once I got to work, my bike, my jacket and my helmet were covered with dirt. The water droplets in the fog are full of dist from those coal trucks.
Coal trucks pick up there load in a dirt environment. This dirt stick to the tires and finaly end up on the road. EVERY time it rains, the bikes and the cars are filthy.
I too want to thank you Zwewe for the excellent instructions and pictures to remove the Z750S fairing. I actually looked like I knew what I was doing and the process was painless and smooth. You got any other instructional posts I should know about? Keep'em coming!

Your welcome Fujizee. I wrote a bunch of Specs and SOP's in the past, maybe it helped
. I don't have anything as "advance" as this fairing removing instruction. But I have made a portable bike lift you can find at :
http://www.riderforums.com/showthread.php?t=29197
I could get the dimensions for you to copy.

It would be nice if this forum would create a special "instruction area", where instructions like this one could be kept together?
That is an excellent idea and I second the motion. I hope the site administrator will take your idea about the instruction area and make it a permanent part of this forum.
So, what was the point? I'd like to see how the front looks w/o the fairing.
