Would you ride a jacket without shoulder armor?

A friend is offering her Icon Pursuit jacket for my girl to buy. not sure on the price yet. But I am concerned about the shoulders of this jacket.

The CE armor is in "pockets" that unzip from the outside. Besides looking goofy with the big shoulder pads. my girl said they are uncomfortable to wear as well. We pulled the armor out and it was more comfortable. But i am worried about not having padding there.

Should i strike a deal on this jacket, or keep looking for something that fits her a bit better?

If its not comfortable she's going to quickly stop wearing it. I'd keep looking.

I might ride temporarily without armor, but I wouldn't buy a jacket without armor. Not worth the risk to save a few bucks. Find one that's comfortable and has armor. Mine is.

For me it's not an issue, but for you ATGATT folks it may be something unforgiveable. But one thing for sure, there's nothing worse than fighting uncomfortable gear.
My wife doesn't like the turtle shell armor so her jacket has the softer armor in it. It was either that or she wouldn't wear armor at all.
Some protection is better than no protection, but I totally agree with this:

Hello all. First time poster here--2010 Z1000. Been riding for some years however.

My comment: it's called Body Armor for a reason. In a get-off, the suit is the only thing between you and concrete/metal/trees/other nasty things. Spend the money and get quality stuff.
I actually know a few people who had incidents and their armor probably saved them.
The most relevant case: knee -- ended up going down on left knee, slid ~30 feet, then hit the curb with that same knee at maybe 15 mph by then. Walked away. Well...hobbled away. Without that knee armor, no way--would've been ER + possible reconstructive surgery + physical therapy.
Imagine if instead of the left knee hitting the curb it was the left shoulder.....

Why yes I am an ATGATT rider.
Icon, Alpinestars, Scorpion and i'm sure a few others make women specific gear It might be a better choice to call a few places and have her talk to them to see what might fit the best for her.

Or maybe get some Knox Inserts
This is an ICON Pursuit leather woman's jacket. But i think they botched the shoulder design in it. the shoulder pockets were sewn in after the though so it makes them big and bulky instead of well integrated.

I think i am leaning toward walk away.
The shoulder pads are so important because, without them, you can get rash or just have shoulder pains. I've been using Eagle industries plate carrier shoulder pads for so long now. If you are looking for smoothness and comfort, these shoulder pads are made for you. They also absorb shock providing you protection from some kind of fall and hit. They also go very well with the MOLLE system and are made of very high-quality cloth that makes them durable and last longer. You can buy it from here.

I bet they've found a good jacket in the ten years since the original post ;)
