The issue isn't that it's unreliable. It's that it gets ridden hard. Exposed to water, bumped on the outside of the helmet, the wires removed and reinstalled when inner pads are taken out for cleaning, the battery eventually loses capacity (all batteries are consumables), etc, etc. Sena is definitely high quality, it's just that bluetooth intercoms in general get treated rough. And given that helmet intercoms are a niche good that doesn't get sold by the millions, I can hardly complain about the price, either.
If you really are that cheap, then hey, sure, get the cheapest bluetooth helmet intercom you can find. For rider to passenger communication the needs are pretty low so you may very well be satisfied. Just know that eventually you will be complaining, which is okay. Decide your budget and your needs, and go from there. But me personally, even having a Sena 20S, I use cheap bluetooth headphones 90% of the time. To be honest, unless I need rider to rider communication, I prefer them. They're not an intercom, but for everything else they work great.
