I need to find a local forum then. I knew a really good one in Washington, PNWriders. I haven't found anything near Savannah though. I DID find some good roads while poking around maps though and that Roebling Road is in my back yard should I want to take the track day plunge. :)

with the bars installed, I had very little steering lock. To resolve this I cut down the vibration isolators in the top triple clamp to move the nut up higher that attaches the bars to the triple clamp, and also ground the top frame tube down a few mm to give me adequate steering lock, not as much as stock, but more than my Street Trip. So now the stud and nut that attach the bars to the triple clamp act as my steering stop, odd, but it works.
Could you take an up close pic or two of this setup? I understand that a versys lower triple will work well for steering lock. They're rare though so it'd be nice not to have to source one. Does your fork lock still work?

Fork lock is what I was referring to then. I like being able to use it.

I'm not really a clip-ons kind of guy. If I ended up with a 636 upper triple or similar, I'd probably use adjustable clip-on risers. I read somewhere else that using the versys lower maintains steering lock. Using the z1k upper maintains fork lock as well as lets you use standard bars.

I'm starting to collect parts! I got a upper/lower triple from a z1000, a 636 wheel, and 06 636 forks. I just need brakes, a fender and some free time now. After selling my stock parts, out of pocket expense will be very manageable. The springs will be much more appropriate also (BRAD! :D). .90kg/mm vs 1.2 kg/mm. Calculators tell me I need between a .90 and .95.

Thanks, I'm psyched! 6-1 175lb. The forks come with .90 kg/mm springs oem. I'll experiment with them and if they're no good or worn out, I'll probably end up with Racetech or Sonic. Now I need to learn how to change USD fork oil. I think it requires a spring compressor.

I wanted the z1000 upper triple so I can still run stock bars and fairings. Finding that and the front wheel for a reasonable price were the biggest challenge but just sort of fell into place at the same time.

I see the Pre-load and Damp on Top, but no rebound on the lower? Pinch bolts, cylinder bolt and drain....... They're cool though with the cartridge!
There's preload and compressions dampening adjustments on the top. The rebound dampening adjustment is on the bottom near the axle. It's part 16126 on the diagram and is an adjustment despite being called a plug.

Have you had a chance to measure yet from Center Axle to Top Triple Clamp and any disparity in length from OE to the 636's?
Not yet but I do plan to. They just came in the mail yesterday (woot!). It's okay if they stick out above the triple some.

The tools are easily fabricated with the exception of the Seal Drivers..........We prefer the metals over the plastics since it transfers more energy when installing them! Oil Height; we use a turkey baster and a hangar with a hook to measure height!
Nice. Thanks for the tips.

Yes, the MSR's Seem to wear faster and leak, and when they go, they really leak a lot! Ummmm, we were with Moose for a while but my kid just switched to something new that our Local Shop swears by........I'll see him tonight and ask him what the new latest and greatest Fork Seals may be.
I read something in an ebay auction of all places that said forks seals from All Balls, Moose, and MSR are all the same manufacturer. ???

I just did a little mod myself with the Fork Tubes....... Pre Load on the Fly with Intiminators.......started trials yesterday, so far so good!
I'll see if I can get a Thread up today.
Let us know your opinion for sure!

Thanks for the tips, Brad. First I've got to get them installed, then I'll really tackle the adjustment.

OEM oil is 5W at 109mm from the top. This is set for a 150 lb rider. So I would want more oil to prevent bottoming?

Those SKF seals are $$$ but look to be well regarded. OEMs are not too expensive. Apparently Bikemaster are the same as OEM but a little cheaper so I'll probably go that route.

I don't think there are oil locks but I don't really know what those are.

I have no idea about the 1" right angle bump. How many times per second or how many miles per second?

Good point about the seals. I'll check with the distributor. So far it looks like they only have oil seals and not the dust wipers. Price of the seals is not awful actually, $35. They want $15 shipping though!
