Hey y’all👋🏼
So I’ve got a 2001 Kawasaki ZR7-S that was originally my fathers. I just recently started restoring it and got it running and was in the middle of tuning when the starter burnt out so I rebuilt that and put it back on… bike won’t crank anymore
The Drive Gear is free spinning forward but locking up going backwards.
Does anybody know what I might’ve broken?😅 and how I can fix it?

Does not sound like you are restoring it,....it is not that old. It is more like you are simply putting back in riding condition.

....any way, the Drive Gear moves in only one direction......because it is meshed to the starting clutch, which only moves in one direction. If it didn't, the cranking motor would free spin all the time. It is a GOOD SIGN. Starting clutch locks in one direction (and cranks engine).. but freewheels in the other.

By starter, I assume you mean cranking motor. If you bump that cranking motor with a 12VDC battery, ..does it jerk, and rotate??
