Speedo Screen

Hi,

the yellow colored speedo screen is one of the flaws of the Z1k '10

Has anyone seen some aftermarket replacement?

I can't imagine that no supplier is able to produce the screen in other colors. The first one on market will probably earn a lot of money.

Here are some photoshop impressions:

To change the backlight is not a big thing. Simply exchange the LED on the PCB.

It's not just a matter of replacing the plastic itself? Huh.

I like it as is, but that's me.

You're not alone!

Just wish they had put a gear indcator, the electronics are already there :)

(The other P/shop colours are interesting though)
Blue would be nice but I kinda like the original as well.
OP, I was confused on what you were talking about. I've heard folks complain about the amber/orange plastic overlay on the screen making the contrast less than ideal in sunny conditions. Thus I mentioned a plastic swap. Didn't even think about the back light because it's very clear and easy to read. My bad.
Basically I meant the amber plastic cover, but when the speedo once is opened then it's easy to change the LEDs as well.

This was my speedo backlight on my Z750 '05:

It's one unit , you can't open it unless you break it.. :glassesti

Are you sure? The case has 4 screws behind small covers, you can open it. I saw a picture from the mechanics handbook.
I took the speedo apart when i painted the outer bezel and it looked to me that you couldn't open it.
But taking it apart doesn't help you to change the color of the screen.
Lets hope that kawa will come with a transparent screen for next year.
Here's a pic of my new white background light.

But there's still no option to change the yellow cover. :sadpace:

I didn't do the mod. But I know a guy in Germany, he is doing a lot of speedo mods especially for the previous Z models. My speedo was the prototype for the Z1k '10 model. I was very excited if it works well, but it seems to do so.

Basically in the speedo there's one PCB with SMD LEDs on it. If you can solder and if you don't have a shaking hand then it's no big thing to change the LEDs to other colors.
The winter was long and our Forum community was very creative concerning the amber speedo screen/shield problem.

^^^ now thats a mod I would be very interested in!!!! :)
Nice work! When are you taking orders :)
The guy who's manufacturing the new screen is located in Germany. If the transportion fees aren't that high for you, I could arrange it. You only have to send in the part of the speedo where the screen is. It costs around 65€ + the international transport.

Another way is to order from him a spare screen, but that's Kawasaki oem and costs around 80€ + the price for the mod. But you don't have to send in anything.
Wow, that looks impressive! Would love to see a different color background light with that clear faceplate.

Man, that is 100% better than factory, IMO! It looks, um, normal!

I'm sorry but the orange lens is somewhere between chintzy and cheesy, to me. I would replace it with that clear lens in a minute if it were available.
