Side luggage for ZR7, Givi or Krauser?

10220 Views 12 Replies 11 Participants Last post by  Obo
I would like to mount hard luggage on my ZR7S (sidebags only). I recently discovered that the Givi side luggage rack, part number PLB436, has been discontinued for the ZR7. My efforts to locate a motorcycle dealer who would still have one set in stock have so far failed. Can anyone give me advice on where I might find these sideracks? I have been looking on E-Bay for some time now without success.

If I can't get a Givi rack, I may consider Krauser bags. Their website lists sideracks to mount their sidecases on the ZR7.

The Krauser part number is 4002-007-101. Do any Forum members have any experience with Krauser bags? They are very popular in Europe but are seldom seen in North America.

Any advice will be much appreciated.

Yes, I did. They only have the topcase rack. The Givi topcase rack for the ZR7 appears to be readily available. My Kawasaki dealer here in Ottawa has one in stock. Why would Givi stop making the sideracks and still go on with the topcase...? I don't understand.
Givi does strange things sometimes. eBay or a dealer's NOS Kawa. rack may be the only likely sources. I saw the Givi racks on eBay just a month or so ago. Also, I've seen folks fabricate mounts for Givi cases using bar stock or sheet aluminum and adding the readily available Givi "buttons", etc.
I recently managed to find the Givi tubular siderack (PLB436) for my 7S. While luck played a part, I just kept monitoring Craigslist (use Google to find a "search all craigslist" tool) looking for people selling ZR7s. Everytime I saw a ZR7 for sale with the siderack I contacted the seller and asked if they would be willing to sell the part separately. I got a lot of "no" responses, but in the end, one guy in Florida agreed to sell his at a pretty nice price. Just keep searching and I'm sure you'll eventually hit pay dirt. Good luck...
Andre, I got lucky by finding a set here on the forum a few months ago. I found a used, complete set of side bags by GIVI with the Kawasaki logo. The right is scuffed and they generally look used. I paid about $250 for the set plus shipping. With the money I saved I might be able to get the outside halves painted ala Ducatil. I believe they're over $600 new.

Several months ago there was a post regarding a scalper who had a couple of sets for the price of an arm. I'm really happy with mine. They made my bike into the complete commuter/tour bike.

Salut Andre.
While it was still in production Givi did indeed make both side and rear racks for the ZR7.
They were, however completely different items.
The side racks had the option of adding a topcase plate to make a full 3 case set-up, rather than adding side carriers to the rear rack.
As most riders use only a top case (and add the sde cases for long journeys) I suspect that demand for side racks dried up well before the demand for rear carrier plates.
I have been doing my homework trying to find hard luggage for the ZR7. I am obviously concerned that many manufacturers of luggage have stopped making adapters for the ZR7 since this motorcycle is no longer being produced. Obviously this is what has happened with the Givi side racks. I have just discovered that Krauser in Germany, or their other trade name Hepco-Becker is still selling a side rack adapter for the ZR7. FiveStars also makes a generic luggage rack for the ZR7 that will accept Givi saddle bags. The rack is sold by GetGeared, a popular motorcycle mail-order shop in the UK. I contacted them but they will not ship to Canada (lucky you Graeme!).
I am trying to obtain a quote from Hepco-Becker at the moment and will report soon.
Hey Andre,

I was beginning to think that I'd never find the side racks but stumbled upon a ZR-7 for sale in Calgary last month with racks. Luckily the racks were not mounted and the seller was willing, $80 including the tail rack so I count myself lucky.
I enjoy looking through Kijiji and if I see anything relevant I'll pop it on the forum. Good luck.

I had Krauser saddle bags and top case on a Suzuki 20 years ago. Top drawer stuff and good looking too. It was waterproof and easy to attach and detach. I am a new owner of a 2000 ZR-7 and am going to look at the Krauser bags. Thanks for the find. :)
I recently purchased a Shad top box and side panniers from a website in the UK. They had no problems sending it to Australia, so I can't see why they wouldn't ship to Canada. Was alot cheaper than what Aussie shops were offering and I had it sooner than what the Aussie shops could do. I had the top box within 2 weeks and the rest in 4 weeks (they had to order the stock in). The website is http://www.motorbikesandparts.co.uk/

Iv got a rack for sale if interested
Hi @Karlosmaximos. and welcome to the forum.

You should post the rack in the for sale section vs in an old message thread. You'll likely get more movement on it that way.
