I just got the latest issue of Cycle World last night, and saw for the first time photos of the new Yamaha liter-bike.

Bleh. Looks-wise, I don't dig it. I like the 01's better, by a long-shot. That tail just keeps getting smaller and pointier. Apparently the chassis is based on the R7 (sort of), so that part is very cool. I'm wondering what the final dry weight of this bike is going to be revealed to be.

They didn't really up the power output, though. They say that their focus was weight reduction and the quality of power delivery over its quantity, but they will never cut enough weight to make it hang with the GSX-R1000 in the straights, not without more horsepower. Personally, I think the GSX is an ugly bike (ugly bikes just can't be class leaders!), and I was really hoping that the new R1 would bump the Gixxer back off the podium where it belongs.

Oh well, here's hoping for '03...

Hey, is there any truth to that ZX-10 thing? Because really, I'd love to see Kawasaki get back into the game. From what I've read, the ZX-9R sort of gets smacked on by the CBR's, R1's and Gixxers currently available. I guess that the Kaw has been around in its existing form for a while now, and if it's not over-powered by the others, it definitely has a weight disadvantage. Most test riders say that the ZX-9 is better classed with Triumph's and Ducati's liter offerings than the other Japanese manufacturers.

So a brand new, from scratch ZX-10R, that would be pretty damn cool, and way over due. Kawasaki started kicking *** in the 600 series, it's about time they start doing it with real men's bikes, too. :~

Have you ever seen how many different Kawi models are available in the Europe market. Check out the Europe and Japan Kawi home sites. The have ZR's , Zephers, all colors, sizes. Last year or so, Europe had these big bore Yamaha standard models, XJ1300 or something. They sort of look like huge ZR-7's. This country seems to have two markets. Sport. Cruiser. But I think the "naked-bikes," horrible term, are regaining popularity. I lust after any standard styled motorcycle myself. I truly feel the ZR-7 to be the best bike for the buck in this catagory, one that is so often overlooked.

You know, color really makes a big difference in this case. So far I've only seen it in blue and some red/white scheme, but that silver is actually pretty cool looking.

I got to thinking about that ZX-10 thing, and remember that there used to be one. Late 80's, early 90's, I think. Whatever happened to that? My guess is that it evolved into the larger ZX-11, and was never meant to be a light, nimble bike like the ZX-9R. With the ZX-11 disappearing now, and the current ZX-9 falling behind the liter-bike competition, upping the displacement of the Kaw 900 seems like a good idea to me.

I would definately like to get one but it wouldn't be my only bike because I wouldn't be able to handle more then an hour on it so the ZR-7 is here to stay at least for a while.

Just browsing some old threads...

You know, it's funny what six months of looking at and reading about a bike can do to a guy. I started this thread complaining about the 02's dismal looks, and now it's my second favorite sportbike ever... :)

The Silver R1.... If I could be "intimate" with this bike, I would. I kid you not. No, this has nothing to do with being bored, jobless (well, I AM waiting tables), etc. I want this bike. I love this bike. Er, I have to go to the bathroom now...

New R1 & ZZR1200

Two of my friends came across a brand new R1 last weekend.
They tried to catch up & get a look but he took off. Finally he slowed down and they caught up to him at 90-95 mph. Then he
pulled a wheelie and accelerated off. They said they pulled over and decided they were apparently not worthy of his company.

I saw the new ZZR1200at the local dealer, very pretty. I WANT ONE!!!! If I ever get to do alot of touring, that will be my ride.
Looks awfull big for an every day bike.

I love that bike!!!!! I want that bike!!!!! I've seen two here in Houston in just a week! I taped that same picture of it on my ZR7 last week to see if my husband would notice. He took it off and put it on his FZ1. Then he stuck a picture of his FZ1 on my bike. What a smart ***.

I stopped in at the local dealer today to check on valve shims exchanges. I looked at the ZZR1200 again,it didn't look so big today. Last time they had the ZZR & the ZX-12R up on a raised
platform. I gues that's why both of them looked so big. Now they have a siver one,the other looked much better, a really pretty
red. I guess someone bought it. Good thing,I was trying to talk
myself into believing I could handle 2 MC payments. (MY ZR-7 is only $109/mo. :)
