I had to ad observations to the title because I don't have any stories or pictures to share at this instant. I will have pictures later though.

My observation is this....
What kind of person owns/rides the Ninja 650R??? :dunno: Cause that bike has been out for some time now (3 years??) and we have never had one show up for a ROTR - at least as far as I know.... Seems odd to me... Oh Well!

That's it. That's all I've got at the moment.

It is good to hear that everyone is back safely and also good to know that Stan and Jennar (sp?) had a good day. Now I have a case of the "what if's". Second guessing my choice to leave when I did... Oh well.... It was a good time just the same.

I didn't take a lot of pics this year. Since my ROTR was short and sweet I just wanted to ride. Thursdays ride was shorter than usual due to Wytheville being closer to the main routes we ride than Hillsville. It was fine though since the skies looked like they might open up at any time. Friday morning I just could not ride well. I was very tired and feeling a little fuzzy. I was not smooth at all and that coupled with the wet roads and worn out tires my confidence was not there. Not that I have a lot of confidence in riding wet mountain roads anyway. I need more of that to learn to trust my tires. By lunch time I was feeling much more in tune. The Craigs and I got caught in a thunderstorm coming down the last section of the mountain on 58 just before the log store. We waited 45 minutes or so and it just kept pouring. We decided to just go. Less than 10 miles later the roads were dry and the sun was out. We parted ways as they headed east and I turned north towards the hotel and then home. I got rained on twice more by the time I hit Wytheville. I wish I could have stayed with the rest of the group and gone into Tennessee and N.C. Plus I had never ridden in a hail storm so I missed that too.

All in all I had a great time as usual. I'm glad I played hookey from work even just for a day and a half's riding. It was good to see some good old friends and make some new ones.

I'll post pics when I get around to downloading them.

Hey what's up with all these Honda's? At one point there were more Hondas than Kawis on this ride... These are Craig's new CBR, Craig Jr's CBRF4 (Craig Sr's old one with 108,000 miles on it) and Serp's buddy's Interceptor (can't remember the fella's name)...

This is part of the gang waiting at an intersection for the rest of the gang, only to find out that the rest of the gang wasn't gonna show up any time soon due to a rider down. John from Florida went down on the maneating twisties of route XX (route number not to be named for fear of other people hearing about our awesome secret road, but you all know what it is). From L to R, Serp's friend (somebody help me here), Rob, Serp, Craig, and Danny (Craig's son-in-law).

This is the result of John's unfortunate get-off at the hand of the beast. (Hey... let's name it THE BEAST since there's already a dragon and a snake). Mostly cosmetic but lost a left side mirror in the deal. The Kat also now has a handy little access hole just underneath the seat on the left side. The whole thing is very urban cool. They should make stick-on graphics that look like this. But seriously John was a little shook up but no major physical damage. His back is hurting so we'll see what's up with that. I think the emotional damage may be greater and still TBD.... Stan and Jennar (sp?) can elaborate later.

Here's what I have.

1)Our first road was going to take us to somewhere. It looked good on the map but turned to a gravel road. not uncommon in these parts.

2)Taking a break.

3)Another break

1)Where the Katana had a mishap.

2)The next curve beyond the mishap. The camera stretches out the road. It's a lot tighter than it looks here.

3) Another angle of one of the breaks. The guy running this country store grew up right near me. Small world.

When I got home friday night my neighbor was having a beer. It was almost time to refill.

And one last pic with the Z contingent.

Our standard stop in Damascus VA for Subway and taking in some bra-less hippie chicks and general hotties. None of those are shown here of course because this is a family website. And for some reason none of them work where I work either, but they are apparently out there. Digressing, sorry-

But what we DO have in this picture is, from L to R: Brandon, Danny, Rob, Stan's back, the back of Jon's neck, and a middle aged Jeff Gordon fan with a "24" hat and T-shirt WOO HOO!. That's what Danny is cheering about. In the meantime Jon is planning an exit strategy and looking at maps. The Craig clan was too. This was the last we saw of them. :mecry:

A quick pic of our stop in Shady Valley, Tennessee on route 421. They call the road "the SNAKE". I personally prefer the BEAST, but this road was still awesome. It's hard to see here but there was a gaggle of Cushman minibike riders gathered just at the base of the sign. Some of these minibikes had big a$$ motors in them. And these were grown men with gray beards, tatoos, black t-shirts and all that standard macho man stuff. It was weird. I shall say no more. No wait... But I did buy a black t-shirt there because they inspired me. It says "Ride the Snake" on it. I think I'll fart out loud now.

"Are you Sure?" This after Kelly asks if anyone has a socket so he can adjust his chain.

Once he found out he had the tools in his tool kit he was so excited he adjusted it 6 times!!

Below is adjustment 4..... :silly: :smokin: :hah:

(Kelly knows I'm just funnin' -- I hope!)

a) I can not be held accountable for knowing the contents of a 9-year stock tool kit which I have never used ... and practice makes perfect for chain adjustment, that's what I always say.

b) I don't know if Gump touched up the picture but it looks good in all the same shade of red. But then again all red looks the same to me. It all just looks like brown or green except a little redder. (Check out http://colorvisiontesting.com/what colorblind people see.htm)

c) How come the back of my head always looks like there's no hair on it? You guys need better cameras or something.

Glad to hear back from everybody. It was great seeing all you goofs again.

Yeah... uh, no longer second guessing my decision to leave yesterday. It is raining here in Lynchburg and to all points west of here. I'd have been in the rain the entire trip home with a church obligation immediately upon arrival!! So, it all worked out as best it could.

Had a blast. It was nice to see the "regulars" and wonderful to meet new folks again this year. Hopefully they, too, will become "regulars".

A quick picture to stay on topic.... Rob supervising Kelly's chain adjustment! :agree:
