Hello,

I know some of you may have not ever visited the ROTR section of the forum. For the last 12 years we have had a group ride on and around the Blue Ridge Parkway in southwest VA and NC. Hence the name, Ride On The Ridge. This will be the 13th year. This ride is open to anyone who wants to come plus friends and family. We usually met up on a Weds evening, all stay at the same hotel or a nearby hotel or campground. Most people go home Sunday morning but you can come for as long or as short as you wish. We ride a nice twisty route during the day, stop for lunch, ride some more, get together and eat in the evening, then enjoy some adult beverages while hanging out and tellin' lies. The ride is at a pretty good pace for guys at the front of the pack, and more civilized for those of us at the rear. The routes are fun, usually around 200ish miles a day through beautiful country and fun roads. We stop at intersections and make sure everyone is together. We've never lost anyone. It's a pretty loosely organized event. The only rules we have are, don't act stupid, be safe, and have a good time. A good time is always had by everyone and the folks on this forum have all been pretty cool to meet.

This year we'll be staying at the Best Western Mountain View Inn in Maggie Valley, NC. The "official" rides will be Thurs, Fri, and Sat. The 15th, 16th, and 17th.

In the past we've had as many as 20 riders and as little as 6. We've had all kinds of bikes too. Anything from ZX10s to Kawasaki W650s to a ZRX Trike to power cruisers to Night Hawk 250s. So ride whatever you want.

Check out the previous years rides in the ROTR section of the forum.

Hope to see some new faces this year,
Jon

So how did this event turn out? I have been going down to the Smokey's since 2005. I normally stay at a motorcycle campground called the Kickstand Lodge, which is located on NC28 in Stecoah, NC about 23 miles from Deals Gap where US129 and NC28 intersect. The owners Bobby and Mo have taken very good care of me and my friends who have shown up for events that I have planned there over the years. The bath house is very clean, tent camping is $20 per night. They also have small camping cabin, bunk house, etc.. Never had a bad meal at the Kickstand Lodge in all my years of staying there. Bobby and Mo cook a great spread each night for the guests who are staying there. It's a $10.00 donation for all you can eat. And trust me by the end of the days riding on those roads its nice to get back to camp, get out of your gear and get a shower, and then have a few cold ones before dinner. I've met all kinds of nice people riding anything you can think of over the years. The point to this post is that if you are going to enjoy the outdoors, you need to be outdoors, and not in a hotel room. I stay at the Kickstand Lodge each year for a entire week on the Monday after Mothers day. Next year I will be there May 11 to 18, 2015. Anyone that wishes to join me may do so. Jay

That sounds like a good trip, Rocket! Might have to join you next year.
Sure thing my friend, you are more than welcome to join me. Keep in touch as we get closer to May 2015. The roads the Smokey Mountain lots of fun. I know my way around down there pretty well, but always manage to find a road that I haven't been on before. Jay

Hey LuckyDuck are you still in for Deals Gap May 11-18, 2015?

Hey Jay, have you written up a comparison of the ninja 1000 to the modified zzr you were riding? That would be an interesting read. Have you had it to the dragon yet?
Yes that would be an interesting read. I loved the old girl but it was time for a change. Yes, last May I actually drove from Indiana to Deals Gap and spent the night, got up the next morning and drove a dealership in Lithia Springs, Ga. where I purchased my Ninja 1000. Drove back to Deals Gap in the same day, got geared up and made 4 passes on the Dragon and scrubbed in the tires really good. Since my trip to Canada last October on the bike the stock tires now have 4000 miles on them and are ready to be changed. The 2000 mile trip flat spotted the stock Bridgestones. Going with the Michelin Road Pilot 4's in the spring.
Come to ROTR and we can ride the Dragon. I think they are planning Maggie Valley as a home base again. Maybe ride down together if you pass through Louisville. Better yet we could rendezvous in Lexington area if your going.
