Psycho insurance rates?

4973 Views 20 Replies 15 Participants Last post by  leo67
I queried the insurance agent today about covering a 2010 Z1000 - he said it would be $4000/yr(!!). In comparison, he said they would insure a 2010 Kawasaki ZX-10r for $1700/yr.. I asked him if maybe he had made a mistake and he said "no, the insurance companies don't like that bike at all"..

Anybody else have this problem?

Nope - I pay $222 a year with $1,000 deductible collision with State Farm.
First, I'm sure it really depends on your area. Rates can depend on an awful lot of things, though it's very strange that the ZX-10 would be less.

Your rates are much higher than mine. Full coverage with Progressive is comparable to your ZX-10 quote.
Progressive quoted me $445 per YEAR with $500 deductibles for the Z1000

$1100/yr for the ZX10 with the same coverage
28 yrs old, sketchy driving record = 345 a year through progressive... Somethings not right for you.
i pay £274 uk pounds fully comprehensive.. oh by the way hi everyone...
I'm with Progressive and I carry $250,000/$500,000 liability limits with $500 deductibles on a 2010 Z1000 I pay $538 yearly, I have 2 speeding tickets and I'm 35 yrs old. I don't like Allstate but they seem to have really reasonable rates in my area.
Weird...

I'm 32, clean driving record, but have had my M1 license for less than a year - regardless, I have had no insurance claims on my current bike or any insurance claims at all for several years..

I'll call Progressive I suppose - my new 2009 Ninja 650r was $620 for full insurance for the year - am amazed that they want $4,000 for the Z1000 - same company/agent
I pay $300/yr on my 2009 ER-6n with $500 ded. and 250/500,000 liability with Progressive.

I have yet to find a company, that I have called, that can come close to Progressive on MC insurance.
I just used Progressive claims service and they were top notch. Drunk 17 yr old turned left across my lane and totaled out my 2009 FZ1. Progressive paid me $7500 for the bike and full price for my after market parts including tax, no depreciation on parts. Quick and no nickel and dime bs, was quite nice as I expected to get screwed. Now hopefully the medical goes smoothly. I doubt it as I will have to deal with the other carrier after my $5000 medical is exhausted. If I can make a suggestion, don't just shop based on price actualy look at the coverages for liability and medical and buy as much as you can afford. There is a lot more to insurance policies than just fixing your bike.
Paying $1600 full insurance for geico motorcycle, 1 ticket 1 not at fault accident, called state farm quoted me $980 for the year for motorcycle went in to sign up and get quote for car also. quoted me $3400 a year for my car called his underwriter and they said they wont insure me for a motorcycle unless I have my car with them..... $3400 a year for a Ford crossover.. robbery
Insurance is one of those areas I hate as a young male. I don't understand why it is they get to discriminate based off gender and age when it's illegal to do it most anywhere else. Being under 25 and male makes insurance costs absolutely ridiculous.
I pay 44 dollars a month, full coverage. Late Twenties.
I live in BC. 8 months insurance cost me $1600. I even have a 25% discount for good driving. That was with third party liability of 200k, fire and theft, and collision. I'm not old enough to qualify for private comprehensive.
hmmm i wonder what the insurance comp. is going to do about the 2011 zx10 insurance rates.. that thing is an animal!

is it the 2010 z1000 that kawi made more close to the zx10 motors as far as cc displacement?

mines only a 04 but state farm beats everyone else around here.. i pay 34 per month full coverage with a couple points on my driving record
As a followup to this, I recently changed my insurance. My former provider ran close to $1400 per year for full coverage. The same coverage at a new provider is $400 for the year. I can't explain the difference, though I can guess at it.

My guess is that some providers classify naked bikes as being supersports, which slaps them into an expensive bracket, and others don't.

All I know is that I'm happy as can be.

Where are you located?

.
I'm in southern california - wound up getting a pretty good deal through AAA - $430/year, which was way lower than the other places offered me ( though I've been a Plus member for over a decade)
