Height is ok for me but the angle is ridiculous. Everyone who rides my Ninja says, "Great bike but the bars have an uncomfortable angle." I can't wait to swap them out with something in a more natural position.

This might be a little pricey compared to just installing lower clip ons but I am contemplating installing the Z1000 top triple & handlebars. Compared to the N1K, the Z1K bars looked more comfortable to me & the angle seemed more "natural". The N1K bars are not bad for what they are intended but they are too upright for me, completing eliminating any front end feel.

You can wait for a while to see on Ebay if crashed Z1k parts start showing up to grab the triple.

The bike was build with riders who wanted a more relaxed riding position in mind. I do not want to be rude by any means but, that is the reason kawasaki has the ZX-series. For those looking for a more agressive riding style. Do not be discourage yet, the bike is fairly new and does not have a well establish after market yet. It will by next year. There are options out there right now, but pricey. Woodcraft, Vortex and convertibars to mention a few brands.

A relaxed position for one rider may not be the ideal position for another rider. The current position is probably perfect for may be 80% of the target market. Myself & Micko are probably the other 20%. I definitely don't claim its bad, its a far cry from the CBR that I traded in but not in the same league as the Z1K which I found better. The ZX is too extreme a comparison, in fact for all intents & purposes both are completely different bikes & can't be compared.

same here... Height is fine but angled down like 7-10 degrees would be ideal.....

Plus with the z1000 you can use many aftermarket bars with different heights and bends, so it doesn't have to be more aggressive. I like the dirt bike bars because they can be wider and further back.

for the ninja 1K, look into woodcraft clip-ons, they come in many different heights and are obviously adjustable. What is funny, I am a real twat about handlebar angle, but my ninja 1k is perfect....go figure!.

thanks for the input guys. i just a happy medium, the zx seems too agressive for me and (i came from a zx10r) i think middle ht would do me good. i feel like im lacking some front end feel with this height.ill check woodcraft.

Keep in mind that while Woodcraft make good products, the their clip ons have NO bar ends & your stock ends will not fit. This means your hands will start to tingle from vibrations.

On my trip from OKC to Indy and back I found that the up right position for me is just a little too much up right. I find my self back on the seat more than when on a short trip to support the buttocks better and when I do tha the angle causes me to have to use my back muscle to hold the position and then my back starts to ache. If the bars were lower about an inch or so I think it would be perfect. I would have also preferred a seat that was wider towards the tank and therefore more supportive on the buttocks.

Overall the Ninja with side cases was an excellent touring machine for me. We spend a day riding through Arkansas and did the pigs tail and the bike just shined. The Ninja's motor is perfect, I never came out of 6th or 5th while the others with me were shifting to stay in a the proper rpm range for their bikes. I was so much more relaxed and enjoying the sweeping curves becaue of the beautiful power band this motor has. NOTE: I went up two teeth on the drive sprocket to lower the rpm at highway crusing speeds. Though the front end does not come up quite as easy as it did before there is plenty of power across the range in any gear.

I have owned the following sport touring bikes 2004 VFR 800, 2007 Sprint ST, 2007 VFR 800, 2008 C14, 2010 C14 and have ridden the ZX-14 and the BMW K1200S and the Ninja is by far my favortie for commuting, distance and a little hooligan fun.

not sure how the Rizoma bar would work on the N1000 but I love them on my Z1000

I had said the same thing about the bars in my review on FZ1OA. Problem with clip on style bars is that the aftermarket ones are pricey. That is a deal killer

Yeah, the FZ1 was worse stock but very easy to fix.

Dirt bike bars for the win!!!

I have DB bars on my 1st gen (Pro Taper) and my 2nd gen (Renthal). There are all kinds of different bars with different angles, bends, sweep, etc. that you can buy. I think Renthal even has a "street fighter" set of bars, which were lower and had less sweep than most DB bars. I almost bought them for my 2nd gen but they were on backorder for forever.

Go to your local shop and look through the books where you can see the measurements and the degrees of all kinds of bars to pick one suited for you best.

2010-11 bars are weird, regular 7/8 bars wont work, factory bars are 7/8 but not where they mount, they have a sleeve welded to the bars making them around 1 inch at the mount point

Interesting thread. I found the Ninja 1000 to still be too aggressive after the test ride so I went with the Versys. As far as front end feel is concerned, the Versys is like a supermoto or hypermotard. It can really handle the tight stuff and is an amazing ride.

Most companies make a "fat" bar that takes care of this. A lot of manufacturers have gone to this setup on bikes with bars.
