I am new to the site and looking for some information on sport bikes. A little background about myself, I am 5'7 and been riding bike for about 15 years. I always had a cruiser and was thinking about an adventure bike since my back surgery. I need to be able to sit up right and I also need good suspension. I hear that the 650R would give me this option. I have never sat on a sport bike and plan to this spring living in western NY they do not have bikes out at mos of the dealerships. I plan on buying a new or left over bike because this will be my last bike I plan on buying.Any information that you can give me would be greatly appreciater.

Hi Arkridia I am same height and also been riding 15 years give or take a few months. After having a plate and pins in my elbow I needed a more sit up bike so got the 2017 ninja 650 as wanted it for touring. Very happy with it as you can position on seat to either sit up or lean forward a bit. Suspension is budget but I find it comfy, I went up a notch on rear shock to improve handling. You need to test ride to see how peg positions may affect your back. It is not sports bike but has the looks without the discomfort of one

welcome Arkridia. Glad to see you are investigating other bikes than just the Versys. I would also look at the Vulcan S. You can't go wrong with the 650 twin engine. It is a strong engine and will go well over 100,000 miles with proper maintenance. Find a bike that is comfortable and that you can hold upright easily. If you get off balance you can definitely tweak your back.

I have to do 3 hours of exercises a day to keep my back and body strong enough to continue a quality of life that includes riding. If I slack off, pain quickly overtakes me. Whatever you buy, you may need to invest in upgraded suspension components. Makes a huge difference in rider comfort.
