New to the forum and haven't ridden in a long time, so I picked up a winter project. It is a 1998 vulcan 500 that someone else started playing with. It has some fairly no in or issues but it starts easy, it rolls and it is what I was looking for. Current minor issues are it needs a new head light assy, turn signals all around, foot pegs on the front, new shift linkage, forward control levers, speedo assy, and it needs some carb tuning, which leads me to a question..... When fully choked it starts right up, but take the choke of and it dies. It runs fast but smooth choked.... I don't know that it has been tuned for the straight pipes, but I am planning on cleaning the carbs, tuning and possibly re jetting them.... Any other suggestions? This is pretty new for me so I am in no rush... I have all winter.

I would put some proper mufflers on that bike first thing. No back pressure is not a good thing. It is definitely in rough shape. How much did you have to give for a bike like that?

I know to me personally it wouldn't be worth more than about $500.
