Picked up a new helmet today. After all the chit chat about helmets, I had to upgrade. I was using a a HJC-LT12. Went to the shop and chatted with the mechanic who races alot. We disussed what was good and what was bad in helmets. My HJC had a few problems. One, my chin would touch the helmet if I was going over about 80mph or if I tried to push it forward. That was a spooky feeling. It also was not as tight as I would have liked.
Anyhow, I tried on the Shoei RF-800 and RF-900. Did not like either. I could touch the helmet with my chin in both. Then I tried on a Arai something or another. For $600 it really was not worth a flip. So the mechanic suggested I use what the race guys use. An AGV. So I tried on the AGV Q3-Xvent. Man is it Sweet!!!. Tight in all the right places. Can't touch the helmet with my chin no matter what. It's got nice removable liners and pads. Venting is great. I rode for about 60 miles tonight to check it out good. It's awesome. Doesn't move around no matter how fast you are going or how you turn your head. It also came with a cool helmet bag, 5 throw away facecovers, like the pro's use, and some cool stickers. I priced em out around $450 or so. The shop guy wanted to help me out so he cut me a deal. Out the door I was $300. Anyhow, if you are having some of the same problems, you may want to check into this helmet. It totally changed the way I feel while riding. I have much more confidence in my head protection now. Those Italians make a mean helmet.
