The OEM carb holders have metal sleeves in them. If the rubber starts to crack from age you can likely cover them in RTV silicone and they will be fine. Not the prettiest solution but it usually works.
Oh, I’ve done it. It works well. The OEM carb holders have metal sleeves in them. If the rubber starts to crack from age you can likely cover them in RTV silicone and they will be fine. Not the prettiest solution but it usually works.
I don't think these carb boot holders perish as badly as people think. It is more likely that old carbs let through unmetered air rather than boots that have perished. If they are a little cracked then it is often unlikely they are cracked through, and can be treated with a silicon or even rubber based "goop" to seal them up. They are made from a stiff rubber and the walls are over 7mm thick. The earlier versions from the Zephyr are just hard rubber however the ZR7 ones are sleeved with aluminium, vastly extending their life.I can’t help you with parts and occasionally I check Craigslist. But one thing you must realize, oem parts for these are starting to run dry. One specific part you should buy are the carb holders.
I bought new ones but I agree with you also.I don't think these carb boot holders perish as badly as people think.
