I agree. A couple of months ago, I mounted up a generic $50 dollar windshield for my trip from just outside LA to Monterey (about an 8-hour ride). I couldn't stand the noise, although it DID take some weight off of my chest and shoulders. Regardless, I took it off and chucked it in one of the garbage bins in one of the lookout areas on Pacific Coast Highway!
I think if I go for it, I'll maybe go for the Rifle fairing that's painted to match. At least it looks relatively sporty. But I dunno; I've grown real fond of the naked look and feel.
I was able to ride Canyondog's -7S for a few miles a couple of weeks ago (thanks Mike) and it just felt... weird. He said the same thing about my bike!
Emrah, I've got the Rifle fairing on my 7, and I don't plan on taking it off the bike anytime soon. Before that, I had the Targa blastshield on the 7, and, oh well it's taking up space in my garage. Anyone want to buy it? I believe Marty has a Maier fairing on his 7. What did ya think of his? Bottom line is I think you get more noise in the helmet with a fairing than pure "naked." But not so much wind pressure on your chest. But that's my humble opinion. And I think the Rifle fairing looks good. Tom
....and I forgot to mention that the fairing takes its share of bugsplatz away from your face shield. Same with cars or trucks that run off the side of the road in front of you and throw sand and other debris your way. Tom
From the looks, the Rifle and the Maier are real similar. I like mine. Don't plan on taking it off unless I crash it off. Then I'll probably get another one. It deflects most of the road trash away and I like the looks. Noise level did increase a bit, but not enough for me to take it off.
I wanted a bit of wind protection but in Australia there is not a lot of aftermarket stuff for the ZR 7. I bought a Honda flyscreen that is a genuine Honda accessory for the VTR 250 and Hornet.
With a few minor changes to the brackets is slips on and looks like it came with the bike from the factory.
It doesn't spoil the look of the bike and gives reasonable protection from wind blast especially on the chest, also there are no noise problems as with the F 15 shield.
guys, i just did a review of the direction 2 lumina flyscreen and jarel posted it to the site. it's really minimal. still more wind noise than naked but about as minimal as you can get. it's dark colored so it doesn't alter the naked look too much. and cheap too, only $60 inc. shipping with a ZR7OA discount.
Someone told me about it when I first started riding. My neck hurt all the time. Thought all those head butts in high school were finally starting to catch up w/ me.
I use a 3/4 helmet when it gets too hot for the full face. Strange thing is, the 3/4 seems to be quieter than the full face. I still haven't figured that one out. Only thing I can think of is that the noise frequency must be different.
