Well, it's official. I told my boss today that a 27 year old man with a Jeep and a bike simply cannot live on what I was making. So, long story short, I'm leaving the open wheel racing ranks and headin' to North Carolina. Gonna find me sum wrenchin' work on stock caas. Whoo-Wee!

I told him I'd give him about a month or so to find another mechanic and bring him up to speed and such. My plan is to just pack up and move to NC and start knocking on doors. No matter how much experience you have, everyone I've talked to says that you pretty much have to be living in NC to get a job there in NASCAR. Much better pay and benefits, per diem, etc. Plus, I think there's a better opportunity to grow there than anywhere else.

So, I'll try to get in a few more rides with my SoCal ZR-7 gang here (Martin, Scott, Netlore, Canyondog, Phillip, etc.) if I can.

Tom, I'm sure you can introduce me to some nice twisty roads out that way.

I'm in for next Saturday. I cleared my schedule just for a ride.
Scott, if you wanna go, let me know and we'll meet up in your territory and go up together.

Emrah, where and what time?

I still say you should venture on up here and ride the mountain roads in my backyard (weather permitting of course. Once it rains or snows, faaaahgeddaboutit for at least 4-5 days). The roads by me aren't that long, but I have no problem running them back and forth all afternoon long. I also think a trip to Bert's Motorcycle Mega Mall is a must-stop shop for anybody with a bike and salivatory glands.

I'll let you guys know which day (if at all) I'm off next weekend.

Oh, hey....if you do get on a NASCAR team and come back to California Speedway...bring your bike!!!! There's gotta be room in a car hauler for a bike!!!! Just paint it to match the car...no one will ever know. (I can just see the "Viagra" ZR-7 now... )

Hey, my favorite driver drives that Viagra #6 car! Emrah, where are you gonna start? Mooresville, Charlotte? Roush Racing has Martin's and Burton's cars there as well as most other teams. Keep me posted. I think most of the Busch series teams are there too. Tom

I'm thinking Moorseville or thereabouts I guess. Most teams are based there. Don't really know the area that well, so I'm open to suggestions. My plan is to pack up, move, rent a storage facility and knock on doors. Simple, right? I'm going to have to look on a map of local areas in relation to the teams.
