Hey guys,

So I have read here and there that this swap is almost a bolt on. Is there truth to this?

I am having a hard time finding threads on it. Either that, or I am using the wrong keywords in my searches.

Does anyone where I might be able to find out some info on this? I just really want to know if the left and right center fairings can be swapped without doing much to the headlight plastics.

Also, is it still possible to find sport bars for this generation bike?

Thanks for any and all insight.

So I'm guessing you have a 07 650r? The ER6N fairings are not direct bolt on. you will have to cut some of the ninja 650s tabs on the frame off to make them go where they are meant to be. Then you will need to come up with brackets to mount the ER6N fairings to. you also need to come up with a smaller coolant bottle or relocate it as the stock one doesnt fit under the fairings and the ER6N coolant bottle wont mount up to the 07 frame. The belly pan will fit but you will need to order the belly pan brackets that bolt to the oil pan. I believe you just need to talk to someone at the ninja650shop.com to get you some sport bars.

Thanks for the reply!

I do have an 07, that is correct. That honestly sounds easier than it probably is. I'd be more concerned about the coolant reservoir/relocation. I have seen pictures of people using soda bottles lol

ninja650shop doesn't sell the sport bars for the 07 anymore :(

Does it have to be THE ninja650shop sport bars? You could use Rizoma or Renthal instead. The LxWxH profile looks similar to the sport bars (see pic below).

Bicycle handlebar Bicycle part Auto part

The Rizoma/Renthal are hollow "light weight" aluminum pipes compared to the solid "heavy weight" block sport bars. Btw, I also purchased the ninja650shop sport bars, but opted for the Renthal version (p/n Road Ultra Low 758-01, I think) instead. Just cut the handlebar to preferred size, if you find it too wide.

Enjoy and ride safe! :)

just and FYI the two brackets that XxGRYMMxX is talking about is on a national back order. I have been waiting 3 weeks so far for the brackets and no one I have called or emailed can get them at the moment.

Wow, thanks! I didn't know there were others. Are those in order of how mentioned them? The top pic is Rizoma and the bottom Renthal?

dont know about the rest of the brackets, but here are the two for the belly pan. I had to research these for my street fighter build. the mounts (attach the belly pan to the oil pan) are kawi part numbers 11055-1106 and 11055-1107
This is excellent information, thank you so much!

Well, that sucks... At least I know what to look for now though. Mind posting or PM'ing when you are able to find them? I will do the same.

I already ordered mine, I'm just waiting on the order to be fulfilled at some point. I got tired of looking/emailing/calling places for them.

When I had my '07 Ninja 650R, I bought the gen 1 sport bars and ended up returning them for defects. I had a machinist and an engineer look at them and they both agreed that they were a poor design. the gen 2 sport bars were redesigned.

I ended up going with suburban machinery bars and put them on 1 inch risers because I wanted them slanted down more than the sport bars or stock SM bars could slant. I was trying to create a more natural feel in the bars, instead of the bars being positioned in the only position that would allow full turn clearance on the bike.

If you decide to turn it into a streetfighter, at least put a little more effort than this guy.

Oh god... I care about my bike a little more than it would SEEM he cares about his...

I am not planning to turn it into a streetfighter. I have some scuffing on the right side since I laid it down not long after I bought it. I was just looking for other options as far as plastics go. The sport bars are mainly because I like the way they look, however, I might install them and decide they're too uncomfortable.

This is my first bike, so I am trial by erroring this, basically.

I have installed sports bars on the last 3 first gen Ninja 650s I've had and like them very much! It's a shame they are that hard to come by now. I do feel like the ultra low bars would work to the same effect.

When I had my Ninja 650 I went through many iterations trying to make it fit me well.

I did the sport bars.
Then I added 360 degree rotating footpegs because the more leaned forward of the sport bars made the legs feel awkward.
Then I replaced the sport bars with a set of laverda multi adjustable bars. That is when I learned that the fuel tank and fairing highly restrict what position the bars can be in.
Then I went with some off the shelf handlebars that were too wide.
Then I went with Suburban Machinery bars.
Then I added one inch risers with the Suburban Machinery bars.
Then I tried one inch rise, one inch back with the Suburban Machinery bars.
Then I tried the stock bars with the one inch riser.
During all of this, I kept rotating the adjustable footpegs trying to find that right combination.

Finally, after 4 years and 15,000 miles, I traded the Ninja for the '11 Versys 650. Put 30,000 miles in 4 years on that bike.

Point being, sometimes you just can't make a bike fit you and you need to move on.

Oh man, that's quite the journey you went through!

I mean, the bike fits me fine as it is, I am more or less just curious about how they feel and look on the bike.

I've sat on a couple super sports like the zx6r, for example, and those bars were surprisingly low. I didn't quite know how I liked it. However, I sat on a Honda Interceptor.. The seating position felt exactly the same as the 650r, but it has sport bars on it. That bike was the definition of what I wanted. I am really hoping that that's what this could accomplish if I bought them.

I think the ER-6N fairing swap would help a lot with the room as well. I've seen some videos, and a lot of people actually have more trouble with being to close to hitting the windscreen than the fairings. I could be wrong though, I am still educating myself on all of this.

I did the double bubble screen to move the top of the screen further away from me.

Keep in mind that when you sit on an SS bike, the rider triangle is set up for the racing position.

The interceptor was a SS bike back in the 80s, but now would be considered a sporty bike like the Ninja 1000.

Well, it's perfect fitment for me. Would be perfect if that is what I was able to get with the bars.

I also did the double bubble. At first it was a little odd because it sent the wind directly into the front of my helmet, but I don't notice it much anymore.

Update on the belly pan brackets. I just got an update on my order from partzilla that they will be available on the first of March! so I think total wait time will be 5-6 weeks from when I ordered. Not too bad if you are really wanting to add that belly pan!

For sure! I'm actually working on 2 different 650s. When I get them both finished up we're hoping to do a real photo shoot.
