Hi guys,

Firts of all excuse me for my bad english sometimes (not my first language)
Last week I bought my new bike, a 2016 kawasaki ninja with some minor falling damage.
It had some broken fairings and the dashboard wasn't working. I noticed a broken cable in the wiring harness and fixed it.

After that de dashboard still didnt work so i figured to check te connection pins and disconnected the dashboard from the harness. After checking the pins and plugin the dash back in it suddenly worked. So i thought nice, problem solved. But when i turned the key off and back on the dashboard did not turn on. So i disconnected it and reconnected it and the dash did go on again..

I tried this a couple times and every time i have the same problem. I also tried it with removing the fuse to the dashboard and the same problem keeps appearing...

Does anyone have an idea?? I asked some dutch forums (where i live) but no one seems to know a solution.

I hope you guys can help me.

Think its the connection to the cluster, have a look at that and the Orange wire (power) to the cluster, look for power from the battery to the cluster

Hi I have checked the orange wire and it is getting power when i take the negative wire of one of the lights. When i try another wire in the plug my voltage meter tool is telling me there is no voltage. I assume this is because of all the wires connected to the plug are positive wires and the dont make an complete circuit?

I hope you (or someone else) can help me.

Thanks in advance

Yes matey, earths are so easily overlooked when trying to get to the bottom of things

Thanks just checked it and the voltage meter is gettimg power when I use the Orange cable for positive and black and yellow cable for negative.

They givd power when the key is on and also when its turned off.

So i dont think this is the problem

Hi all, last night I was searching the internet and found out how to do a self diagnosis but I didn't get any codes on my dash. Does this mean there are no fault codes? or should the bike also show a code when there are no errors?

Thanks in advance.

I'm also still looking for the error with the right blinkers. they did work when i bought the bike but now the don't work anymore.
I think there might be a connection issue with the buttons on my steering bar.

Correct Ruben self diagnose will show stored fault codes but not intermittent ones, so thats a good sign no historic faults, with having been knocked over the front end usually feels it first especially the switch gear and electrics, so having a look inside the switches is a good idea, and connectors , which side did it go over on

The bike fell on its left side, so the unit with the blinker switches, light switches and horn might have taken a hit.

also the Voltage regulator was damaged so I replaced that one already.

This morning i got the idea for an sulotion that works but is not perfect: I thought of cutting the orange wire to the dash (power) in two and wire a switch to my dash and attach the both ends of the power wire to it so I can switch the dash on after I turn the key. it's not pretty but I tested it and it works. But then I still have an issue with the right turn signals so I have to check those first.
