The gear indicator picks up the signals of rpm, speed and idle directly from the speedometer board.
Since these signals are always present, the delay of the display is less than one second.

Unlike the diagnosis connector, which is not constantly provides the necessary information.

There are also no cables out of the speedometer housing, which you would have to connect somewhere.
Everything is built inside the speedometer and also connected.

The software of the gear indicator that suit motorcycle is stored and must be activated via the menu.

So the speedometer after the terminal is ready to use.
sorry z1000 only :(

You seem like quite the fabricator yourself, maybe he'll sell you a bulk order of the parts and you can be the north American distributor / installer ;)

Wow. That is great. Does he have a website or something? I wonder if maybe he could be convinced if a bunch of people got together and send their clusters to him in one package...

lol.. i know it would be crazy i bet, but as i said he does not want to deal with customs... import is 19% vat depending on the value in europe, i priced mine 50$ cad but fed ex though..
no charges with my friend there.. apparently no website.. home made.. he is working on a big project (maybe website) so he ceased it for now..
also can you discipline yourself without riding? i guess you could run the bike, just no rpm gauge use a phone as speed gps?

I'd have to look into how to do the customs paperwork properly, but there shouldn't be any vat because he isn't buying the speedo from us. We are sending it there to have work done, we would owe duty when it comes back to Canada, but only on the value of the upgrade done to it. May have to pay a customs broker to make sure it gets handled properly as it is an unusual case.. Should also be possible to send the return customs paper work with it so all he had to do was stick it to the box and drop it off and the local shipping center.

And yes, I keep my cell phone mounted to the handlebars anyway. I could live without the cluster for a bit if he was willing to do it. It's a very worthwhile upgrade.

I always figured if I did not know what gear I'm in I should go home because my mind is not on what I'm doing or I'm drunk. Ah, but when I was drunk I would forget to put my feet down when I stopped. The wonders of the computer age, what next? Perhaps an indicator on the toilet to let you know you forgot to wipe, or something that would tell you to get your head out of your anal cavity and concentrate on your riding.

Yeah, I could have used a gear indicator the first couple thousand miles I had the bike but now it's kind of automatic. On the 2011 I was trying for 7th hear a fair amount but that's cured on the 2014. I don't drink and ride so no worries there. I'd rather have an air temp display.

I wonder how you poor souls would have done on the first bikes I rode. Not even a tach!

All that aside, whomever does the mod work is amazing! Kudos for creativity and workmanship.

I like how everyone automatically assumes those who like a gear indicator aren't able to guage engine sound and rpm at speed.. That's not when I'd use a gear indicator .. Not only do I have a good sense of what gear I'm in when moving .. I don't care a whole lot. I'm on whatever gear the engine feels best at for the speed I'm going..

When I'd like a gear indicator however is when I came to a quick stop and don't remember if I'm sitting at a red light in 2nd or in 4th LOL
