Got to work this morning and on going to take off my helmet noticed the chin-strap was undone. That's the second time I've goofed in that respect.

Maybe there's a clever way for us old(er) guys to remember stuff ? I actually find that if I am distracted (eg. wife asks difficult question like "Will you be home for dinner?") then I usually forget something (wallet, mobile phone, whatever). It's just that I more or less get myself into a sort of sequential bike-thinking mode, and it doesn't pay to be interrupted.

You didn't notice that thing flapping in the wind? I have done that once and the strap nearly beat me to death. I just pulled over and snapped her up. Your lucky.

done that a couple times myself ;) to avoid it i make the helmet donning a sigle operation: pop it on and do up the strap right away. if i put it on, then the gloves, start the bike, double check the kickstand... now what was it i forgot? just don't put the helmet on until you're really ready to keep it there.

I've forgotten the chin strap a couple of times too. If I don't do the strap right away I have a tendency to forget it just like scottaraujo. What makes even harder is that my HJC LT12 has a removable piece at the chin which blocks out the wind, it feels just like my chin strap.

Hey scott, at least you wanted to , but forgot. I've seen guys ride with helmet half off their heads, like, "look at me, I'm BAD !" Usually sport bike guys around the neighborhood, Duhhhh...
My favorite goof is pulling out after gassing up , and forgetting to kick up the kick stand. Vrrrrrr-bluhhh......, Oh crap, how embarassing ! "Hey , look at the guy who can't get his bike into gear ! HA HA.

be glad we have an interlock switch. this is more embarassing and dangerous when you could pull away with the stand down. that first left turn really sucks!

i now have a rule for this too: if i'm sitting on the bike the stand goes up. just in case the interlock switch fails ;)

a guy on top of palomar tried to pull away with his stand down this weekend. luckily the bike stalled. i yelled, "KICKSTAND!!!" and pointed right at him. he said thanks, restarted, put it up and motored on :)

Well, maybe I'm not so dumb. I've never even tried out the kickstand interlock to see if it works - I jusk KNOW that I have to put the stand up whenever I'm moving (even if not using the engine and just putting around with my feet).
