TOO loud???? is there such a thing lol
Honestly? Yes. I took the baffles out of my dual baggers on my Nomad. They were wrapped with fiberglass. With no baffles, it left your head ringing. I put the baffles back in, but without the fiberglass. Perfect! I really like the sound of my Big Shots. It could be just a little louder, but not no baffles loud. They have that nice sound at a stop light, but get loud quick when I get on the throttle. I have a number of bikes on my street. Couple of hardleys, a Vulcan classic, a Road Scar, and a KZ1k. There are a couple that are loud, but mine is definitely louder. It was funny watching them run to the door or window to see what was coming down the street after I changed my pipes! I know this is strictly a matter of opinion subject. But, you know, I like to be able to hear people in their cages, and even other bikers, tell me how nice my bike is and ask what it is!

Just installed my side burners. Took me about 2 hours and it was my first time to remove the stock and install. Total of 3 hours.

Looks like I'll be installing sideburners here shortly. Got em for $405. About $350 less than retail. When I do get them, I'll be selling my Big Shots. The pipes are brand new, but the heat shields have some scratches on them. I'll keep all informed.

Sorry to resurrect an old thread... I have the HK Sideburner on my MS and I purchased the Smartpantz baffle. However, I cannot figure out how to install it! The angle of the exhaust makes it virtually impossible to drill holes for the baffle. Any tips from those that have installed the baffle? And maybe a few pics as well? Thanks in advance!

Hello Mr. Texas!

It's been a long time since I've checked in and it's good to see some of the ole' brothers and welcome to the new!

When I noticed this thread in the main menu, I had to see what it was all about and after reading, guys are asking the same questions and making the same comments we all have before more than once. lol

If anyone knows about the pros and cons of the side burners, I can humbley say, I DO! I simply love those pipes on the Meanie. They're BADASS and plenty loud to satisfy most anyones taste. For all you new guys, I suggest reading my thread "POP Goes the Weasel And The Weasel Goes Pop". In there you will read all about my experiences with backfiring, what causes it, and what to do to get rid of it. I've tried the Smartpantz baffle and hated it. It sounded like I stuffed a potato in the tailpipe. I guess it's ok if you want the look but no effect. As far as those who do want to quiet them down, to answer your problem drilling the holes for the baffle, simply position the drill bit so the chuck is only holding about 1/2" of the bit. Or if you can find a longer bit. Center punch where the hole will be because you're gonna have to drill at an angle and the bit wants to walk. Have a little patience and with the right touch, the bit will catch and your hole will be drilled.

The ONLY thing I would use is the header baffle from Big City Thunder. It doesn't change the sound hardly at all but gives just enough back pressure to help with the popping. The rest is taken care of by installing the Power Commander PCIII. I definitely did eliminate 100% of the popping in my Meanie hut it took a lot of time with trial, and error.

For those who want the DG Hardkrome Sideburners, Hardkrome manufactures their pipes in production runs. Just because you don't see the in their web sight doesn't mean they done make them, it just means they are not in production at that time. Look for them on line and you're sure to find distributors who will have some.

Good luck to you guys with your Sideburners. They are awesome pipes and are definitely worthy of the Meanie! You can see my former Meanie (Elvira) as my avatar.

I think I'll go play with my Thunder Mountain Firestone now. Meet Jessica!

Great to see you posting even though you don't have your Meanie any more. The way I look at it is...once a Brother always a Brother no matter what you ride. That kindred spirit is always there no matter what.

Just purchased And installed Smartpartz Hard Kore Quiet Baffles . Best $82.00 inckuding shipping i spent all year. As for me.....riding my bike 10 miles to work one way the Sound before was just to loud. Some like it....but not for me and one other one i met on this forum. Too.......i felt like the bike was losing power and not performing well. I can say this.....they waisted no time shipping the product onded paid for. 3,500 mles & had them in 3 day's. Had the long Cobra pipes on my previous Vulcan 1600 classic before the accident with the young girl pulling out in front of me. I love the sound of my bike now........
