fluttering noise and power loss

Its not really a popping noise, sounds more like a fluttering or a very light flapping noise when I decel in gear or rpms drop when I pull in the clutch. I've also definitely noticed a decrease in power during harder acceleration. Feels like it takes some time for the throttle input to register. I was thinking vac leak somewhere and I've checked the acorns on the exhaust and they seem tight. Anybody had this before or have a good place for me to start?

Thanks in advance.

I was told this is 'normal' after installing aftermarket exhaust. Mine does it and I have PCiii and jacked up the fuel at closed throttle rpms. They say your factory exhaust also makes these noises but you can't hear them.

Tom E,

Thanks...

I still have the POS scotchlock so that is the first thing I'm going to try. What do you suggest, splice into the wire or is there room to reach a junction?

This is the best forum ever! Late last week my bike started sputtering, lurching rhythmically when taking off but started fine. My fuel injection light was also on. I knew I had read about that crappy TPS connection supplied with the PCIII but when I installed it I was in too big of a hurry to take the time to do it properly (I had already put on new exhaust and intake that day). Today I pulled the tank and low and behold the crimp had totally sliced through the wire from the bike just as this forum has described many times. A little bit of solder and we're running like a champ again!

Thanks to Tom_E et al for serving up all the great advice on here. I love being hands on with the bike so I know things are done properly, not to mention I can use that money I would have paid the stealership for something else I also enjoy. Beer!

Scotch Locks blow. Great idea, bad results. I can understand them being used for car stereo splicing etc. that can fail without causing driving issues, but they shouldn't be allowed when the splice applies to something that involves how your vehicles operates.

I wonder if you took it to a dealer to be installed if they would use them or solder.... Probably depends on the dealer and how many service issues they had regarding this.

A bunch of people have posted about how the dealer did it with the crap lock. Then a year later they take it back and charge them labor to solder it because the "modification" resulted in bike failure/issues. It's all about going into modifications with your eyes open. A little research before you start hacking at wires and unbolting things is always a good thing. Whatever mistake you would have made, someone somewhere has already done it. Why not learn it in advance and avoid it.

I think the most amusing posts are when someone gets on here and says I absolutely must have a PC3 or progressive shocks or some other mod on their bike. And then in the same post they ask what it does or what benefit it provides. Seriously?
