So I've had the itch to get another bike mostly for around town driving and for a cheap and fun way to/from work on local roads with max speed limit of 55. My last 2 bikes were a Suzuki GSX-R750 and a Yamaha Raider so I'm used to way more power than the 300 offers.

I'm not a big guy so I think I would fit well on the 300, but do you think it would be enough bike to satisfy me or will it feel like a moped? I appreciate the responses.

There is no way anyone can answer that question for you. I have everything from a 250cc dual sport up to a 1400cc I-4 in the Concours. Every bike is enough bike for what I want to use it for.

You need to find a test ride on a 300 and make the decision for yourself. The 300 makes plenty of power for the public roads. You have to be willing to rev it if you want to keep ahead of traffic. I had a Ninja 250 back in '07 and it was plenty enough bike for me when riding the back roads. Not enough bike to strap on camping gear and taking a week long trip because the bike was physically small for me.

A buddy of mine who's 6'2" and 200lbs with gear just bought a CBR250 Repsol a few weeks ago to use for commuting in the D.C. area. He says even with his butt on it it'll do 70 without any mods, but it's about done there. He loves the little thing! He has a 2012 RT for everything else, just uses the CBR for the daily commute. Plenty of bike for him for the job!

The 300 will do fine...regardless of operator size. It is way more motorcycle than either 250. The 250 Ninja killed the Honda 250...and the 300 is way more motorcycle than the 250. The combination of fuel injection and larger displacement make it accelerate much more briskly (0-60 in under 7 sec) AND more fuel efficient (70+MPG according to owners..most around 75)

It is..for me..the smallest bike I could live with on a daily basis. I am a bigger guy also...5'11" 230.

I agree with no one being able to answer. Theres more to it than top speed, for me. I'm at higher elevation, and when I pass cars, I like to PASS them. For me, no. I love the bike, and if I were riding through neighborhoods, and other c store, it would be awesome.

I rode a scooter for a while, and loved it. The first few fill ups..you thought the pump had broken as you'd go everywhere for 3.00. I get that, too.

I dont see any point of riding a motorcycle thats no faster than a car. At that point, give me an car with am radio, 8 track tape player, and crank handle windows.

Put it this way, it's not a bad bike. At all. If I hop on my wife's now after my 650, it makes me giggle. It's SOO light and eager to turn.

The stock tires aren't great, but I think they're going to something a little better now. Leo Vince slip-on pipe and it sounds dern nice too.

You knwo what my issue is with small bikes? No torque to leave stop lights. Otherwise, 25-30 hp is plenty.

You need to ride a 300 buddy...throttle response is amazing in relation to it's displacement. No way I would ride a 250 any further than I had to...the 300 I would own as a 3rd bike...basically as an around town commuter and gas saver.

Buying any bike is a completely personal experience. It's good to ask, but opinions vary as each of us have our own wants. Some say no, some say yes, some say as the xth bike. Test ride one, it's really the only way you'll be able to figure it out. The other thing I would consider is if you ride with others, will it keep the pace you desire as a participant with the group? Or to say, if everyone else has 750s or 1000s will you be able to stand being the guy everyone is waiting for every few miles and that sort of thing. I'm not saying riding groups should influence how you ride (like above your level etc.), but it's really about how you would want to participate.

This is pretty much my point and why I simply say it isn't a bad bike. If the ergos and power level are ok, go for it.

The problem with the 300, for me, is the ninja 650. It really is not that much larger, or heavier...and is everythign anyone would need, for pretty much any condition.

The 300, though, with regards to being left behind. If its a small canyon, with top speeds in the 40-50 range, odds are your friends on the 750 and 1000 will be behind you. You'll wait for them ans they got to fast in the straights and slow too much for the corners.

Just my opinion
I have a 300 and a 650, both 2014 models. The 300 is my wifes. Yesterday I road my 650 for an hour, then jumped on my wifes 300. I could not believe the lack of power i felt, but ofcourse this is what i would feel. To me this is the pros of it
-as soon as you sit on the bike, for me, it feels like a bike should. (For its style)
-it rides very smooth, and you can slam that bike in corners. Without having to baby the throttle control. Due to its smooth acceleration and lack of power (instantly/abruptly).
-its a very forgiving bike.
-Good mpg
-Looks good

Its so much fun to ride and great for in town traffic and commuting. It looks great also, its looks better than my 650 really. However i know, that i would get upset with the lack of power when riding with friends. you can hang in the corners, but once they accelerate out, well there is nothing you can do.

Ohh, but the 300 is much lighter. It's 80lb lighter right off the bat. That's huge in a bike. A slip-on drops at least 10lb off the bike and should be pretty much the first thing you do to a 300 IMO.

The 650 is a heavy pig for what it is. The weight doesn't really bother me for my purposes or my size, but I can appreciate a nice light bike having ridden a 300.

I have a hard time picking out a 300 when I walk into a dealership. Looks very close to a SS bike until you take in the details.

I would say that your friends with the larger bikes will be amazed at the pace you can hold in the twisties. Sure they will be able to get tickets in the straights, but anyone with a large displacement bike can go straight fast. That doesn't require as much skill as holding your own in the curves.
