I figured Id try to get a conglomeration of all the things you can do to your ZR with a stop to walmart, Home Depot, or equivalent. I've seen alot of stuff on here that would definately count as DIY, so hopefully this thread will see some use. Feel free to post up or PM if you got a good one, and I'll add a link into the initial post so that poeple dont have to search everywhere. I am also up to try more DIY mods, so all you gotta do is ask. :D

I guess I'll start it off. There are a bunch of these "mods" that are already posted.

Obviously, anything on the ZR-7 site is a bible to ZR owners:

This thread is my own stuff that I have done. Includes DIY stuff like:
Straight Pipe - Stock Exhaust Mod,
Seat Reshape,
Fender Eliminator,
Home Made Phone Mount, and
Painted Side Panels.

That's my bike!!!!! Awesome!!!!!!!!

Haha, I find the thread useful..... i'll have to come up with more mods for you to put on here :p

The thing is our bike is not produced anymore... matter fact it hasn't been for a while..... so the amount of "new" owner to this bike is very low..... I guess that's why the forum is a little quiet lately.......

:welcome: Darren.

Thanks for joining us from "across the pond". We've got a good number of members here from the British Isles.

As for starting a thread.... It is just an "Anti-SPAM" set up in the software. After this initial post and (I think) 24 hours, you will be able to start a thread.

If not, you can always PM one of the Moderators and they will be happy to assist you! :headbang:

Have a good day and again, :welcome:

There is a fender eliminator mod listed above. If you are talking about a real fender eliminator, then this is the wrong thread for you.

The search function will be your friend here. There are tons of posts on the matter, its just simply finding the keywords to match up withh your intended idea.

Surely you don't expect us to give up all of our secrets....:killingme

There are acutally 2 more styles of home made racks that I know of. I have one (maybe both) in the garage. I'll have to shoot a couple pictures for you during the week.

You can lower the ZR by swapping the dogbone, I believe ZZR1200 dogbone will lower it 1.75 inches? Or 2... I cant remember exactly.
As far as extending the swingarm... I dont recall having seen that done..... so you're on your own... but shouldn't be too difficult.
The question is, WHY would you want to extend the swingarm? The ZR does not have enough torque or power... so if you're thinking of dragging it, probably not a great idea.
I lowered mine for ride comfort since I'm only 5'4...

Punctuation? Thread jacking? :silly:

So your wanting to make your bike less nimble for looks? The thing I like about the ZR is how comfortable it feels in the corner, and everywhere else for that fact. A longer swingarm will give more stability in a straight line... There are a few people on here that use the sporty side of the ZR, but the majority on this forum enjoy the little less aggressive side of the ZR.

I am still trying to get that R6 swingarm swap going, which will extend it about an inch or so. Although Im not a fan of extended swing arms, let us know what you do. Im always a fan of mods that someone might find useful.

And a cheap pipe? As in an exhaust bolt-on muffler/can? The cheapest is to do what I did and make a sort of straight pipe. Other than that, your looking at several hundred dollars for a new Jardine or Muzzy. Might be able to find a used one, since they pop up every once in a while.

Good luck.

I'm new here as well and don't know where to post this, I cant start a new thread (I don't know if I have to for this). But any way:

I just bought a 2003 ZR7S and love it. I was looking around for things I could do down the road to make it stand out a little and I saw the new ER6N from Kawasaki. Take a look at how the exhaust runs underneath the motor, would it be at all possible to do this with the ZR7S? I was thinking if it was it might be a hassle, but if you think it is possible could you let me know?

Man, people cant wait (What is it, a day) to start posting? :pcbash:

Dont worry, I welcome new ideas :D. Anyhow, the exhaust already runs under the engine. If your talking about putting the muffler there, Im sure it can be done. Just gotta get a muffler that is meant for under carriage mounting and make it attach onto the midpipe somehow. Might have to fab one up yourself, but that would definately be something for the DIY wall.

Im not sure what kind of bikes come with the muffler under it like that stock, but you could probably pick up one of those for cheap when the owner does an exaust upgrade and sells his stocker. Heck, if you find a muffler cheap, I'll try it. :headbang:

(Hopefully someone has a new header setup in case I epic fail)
