Just curious if the gears can be pulled and replaced without having to pull the engine out (I don't have a factory service manual).

My gearbox is fine, but if they're accessible, I'd like to be able to pull them out and inspect them; perhaps once a year. Anyone know?

Looks like a major job to access the gearbox internals. Remove engine / transmission, split cases, virtually a complete strip down. Some bikes have a cassette type gearbox where the entire internals can be removed from the side of the bike without dismantling everything. I think these are generally high end competition type bikes.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the insides of my gearbox never see the light of day.
