Friday, I took off on my favorite RTE weekend extravaganza; central Texas BBQ run. I got to bed about two hours later than I wanted to and left 1.5 hours later than I wanted. It's a nine hour haul down there no stops and I like to eat good the first day, so I have a one track mind to get there ASAP.
Holy crap it got hot fast! I was in my Phoenix textile mesh with wicking shirt and shorts and GT Air lid. Stopped for a Powerade to help me. Saw a Connie across the median, two actually; a 14 and a C10 together I think, eastbound on I20. That was the best part of the abbreviated trip. Got just past Shreveport and decided I had had enough. In my mind, I kept telling myself how bored I was, over and over, which was odd because normally I'm fired up when I make this trip.
I turned around and made a three hour stop, rode two hours, a one hour stop, then another hour home. I was beat down and dejected. I know heat can do some crazy things to you, but I was miserable, heart and mind weren't in it. It was all I could do to make it home safely... I probably shouldn't have continued in my condition.
I've decided I still want to go for the BBQ, but I'm taking the cage in the morning. I gotta regroup on my biking. Really disappointed.
Oh yeah, on way back passed a west bound Connie which was even cooler.
