Hi,

I’m after some help, I’ve just picked up a 2006 Kawasaki Ninja ZX6R 636 and I was wondering if

you can remove the Stem bolt (middle bolt on the Yoke) to insert a Quadlock mount for the phone?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Usually that gold colored nut I think you’re referring to just holds down the top triple clamp. The steering stem itself is held in place with nuts underneath.
I suppose you could get a thin gauge metal bracket that fits underneath it if there’s enough threads but there’s a lot of vibration there. It’s probably not the best place for a mount if vibration is a concern.

There’s just a thin washer with probably 1/4 inch of steering stem threads showing. Then you’re looking down the hollow stem. The stem locking nuts are under the triple.

That hollow stem is what I suspected was there. Sure seems like that gold cap is simply a decorative cap and the real retention nut is under the cap. That being the situation, there are cell phone mounts that would jam down that hollow center.

Still might be able use the gold cap if a hole were drilled into the center.

Then again, if that gold cap is an aftermarket nut, might be time to return to the OEM nut for a cell phone mount.

That gold stem nut has is there to hold the top triple down on top of the stem. It may be an aftermarket nut but it still has a job to do. If you were to remove both forks, that nut is the only thing securing the top triple in place.
I believe I have seen mounts built into that nut. While riding on the highway, I have reached down and touched that point on the bike and was surprised how much vibration was there. It felt like a jackhammer, at least on a couple of bikes. I’ve heard excessive vibration ruins iPhone cameras.
