50mm fork clamp opening

so I've ordered 50mm fork clamps to mount auxiliary lighting. the clamps are one piece and 3mm thick steel. I need to fit them over the forks without taking the forks top headstock off. trouble is they are strong as hell... is there a tool I can use to open up the clamp so I can slide it over the fork?
