Mounting my radar detector off the left mirror bolt was clearly going to be harder than my 2012. With no visible bolts, I proceeded to take the nose fairings off to get access to the fairing stay to which the mirrors are mounted. Removed two nuts (which are SUPER difficult to get at), then removed the double ended bolts from the mirrors and off to my local fastener place for some nice stainless socket head bolts, then the metal shop for some seamless aluminum tubing in various diameters (so each could be slid inside the other to make them beefier), and I come up with a very tidy and super strong RAM magnetic radar detector mount

And you know what? The stock cans are really growing on me. I like the new brushed aluminum look, and I think they look awesome when standing behind the bike. I'm putting a header on in the next couple of weeks and I think I am gonna keep the stock cans on it. Anyways, I quickly learned how much i hate the stock passenger peg bracket/exhaust bracket. The damn massive bolt really gets in the way of your heels when you are pivoting on your toes on the pegs. Quick solution, a pair of used z1000 hangers, and a little drilling to mount the remote, and voila! problem solved.

Removing the passenger grab rails also allowed me to mount a nice double walled Thermos water bottle. Amazed that when half filled with ice at 6:00am, there is still ice in it at 5:00pm on some of the hottest days of the summer

Nitron awesome. I love mine on the ZR7. I have more in suspension with it and the RaceTech front end than my bike is worth, but it turned it into a "forever" bike. I'm satisfied that the 7 is my do anything and everything bike. I'm looking for a ripper now. Like a 10R or S1000R(R). The new white 10R is gorgeous and my dealer has one on the floor next to a N1k. He wants me to buy the BMW RR in the "other" room. We'll see. Hey thanks for the pics and ideas CDG. Looks good.

Funny you say that, my dealer also has a '17 N1K next to a white 10r. I actually was all over buying a 10R, even had a new 10RR for a week to play around with (buddy wanted me to set him up with a radar detector mount and heads up display). I figured the 10R was THE bike...........meh

Gutless.....until you get above 9,000rpm (the N1K makes more HP and torque up to that point)
Pegs.........Waaaay to freaking high
Wind.........plenty of that

"Greater sense of speed"........that's the phrase I was looking for. I also had a Concours 14, loved it, like REALLY loved it (as long as it was moving), but too big too heavy. The 2014 zx14R I owned for 9 months, well..........a lot of my friends are wondering why I came back to the Ninja 1000, and I guess it comes down to (1) too heavy (2) I could not make the ergos work for me (and I did everything to that bike), and (3) the ugliness of the rear end (I still have an ego to feed that tells me I want a pretty bike).

Lemme see if I can pot up some more pics. I've done a lot to the 2017 so far

I can understand why you would get off the 14, it is heavy. Some guys lower it to get some slow speed control. The 1000 is not a lightweight from the factory. Where you able to get it under 500lbs?

Thanks for the R&D and write up on your bike. I was really curious about the rack, seat and rear shock fitment (looks amazing) and will be sending my ECU to Ivan when it's released.

Your name looks familiar.....BC Sports Bikes? I've always been a lurker there (miss Vancouver)

That's why I went, with the N1K; it's way more useful, comfortable, lighter & accelerates. Even its hwy 60-80 mph 6th top gear roll is the same, as the new ZX-10R. It's more than enough for hwy use & still beats the 10R to the initial punch. It used to be, that the N1K would beat the 10R from 0-100 mph, going, through the rpms, due to gearing. Good thing, the 10's have faster gearing now - what a cluster, upgrade to a ZX-10R but loose to the N1K down low & keep the same hwy roll? What a mess.

That's also, why I passed up on the 14, too heavy & big for a daily. Don't feel like laying down on it. I wouldn't have gone, with a new N1K though because they supposedly make a bit less power than the '14, like the Z650 making less than the FI 650R. Don't quote me on that though, Kawi is selling it, as having the same 142 PS & 111 nm. If you are moding, might as well do it, with the one, that has more power already because you are going to have, to get back up to it anyway. Ivan's tune isn't worth it. Don't spend $ on flash cards. Buy something concrete, a K&N drop in & Akrapovic system and ECU it later. :FIREdevil
