So what works well on the current generation's tank?
I use the Kawasaki K57003-118 tank bag on my 2016 Versys LT. It is not a perfect fit at the rear of the tank. Straps will NOT fit under the bracket that the instructions say to use. However, tie-wraps will fit and can hold down the tank bag straps. I used a couple of tie-wraps and it works as designed. It looks a bit sloppy under the seat where nobody can see anyway, but it all works well. From the top, there is no difference in the way the bag works--as designed.

Thanks. Since I posted that, I bought a small expandable Ion (SW-Motech's new budget-friendly line) bag with a quick-disconnect gas-cap mount. Small, with a narrow map window, but there's no interference with the bars at full lock. After using strap and magnetic mount tank bags for many years on prior bikes, I kinda wanted to try out the QD type anyway. SW-MOTECH Quick-Lock ION Tank Bag - RevZilla
