Hi guys!

This is my first post on this forum, I am so happy to be here.

One of the things that always has annoyed me about my Z1000 is the look of the handlebar. It just looks too "kind" or too little agressive.

I have found out that the "rise" is too high right after the handlebar clamp. It would look better if the handlebar had less rise.
But I dont want to ruin the riding position, I already have some minor problems with my back/shoulders.

I figured out that the best thing to do would be to add some risers and then put on a handlebar with less rise.

Can someone tell me their handlebar setup? And also maybe add a picture?

I work as a mechanic at a military workshop and we have all kinds of machines so I plan to make my own risers by simply adding length to the stock bolt that is attached to the lower clamps. Then I will use the lathe and make a collar out of aluminium and maybe also use the mill to give it a sort of shape, and put the collars under the exsisting lower clamps.
What do you think?

Here are some pictures of my bike:

Would be really nice if someone could get back to me on this.

Thanks
Joakim

Hi Jason 306! Thanks for the reply and picture:)

Do did not add a riser when you installed that handlebar?
How is the riding position?
Do you have some more pictures of the bike from the rear or the side?

Thanks

you could add risers if you wanted, but that would probably put you about back in the stock riding position as the original bars.

Nope, no riser. I prefer these bars over the stockers anyday. Give a sportier position without compromising too much comfort, and they look much better also.

Here's some more pics.

Thanks alot for the picture Jason 306, sweet bike!
So you are not having any issues with the new riding position?

If I ride about 120km I have to take a stop to give my back/arms/shoulders a stretch.
So I don`t think that I can put on a lower handlebar without putting on some risers first.

So if I put on some lower bars with less rise, and then add some risers, I will can basically end up with the stock riding position and get a better look? right?

Today I removed the handlebar and the clamps, going to take the clamps to work tomorrow and lengthen them. I will shoot some pictures and show you.

I plan to rise the lower clamps about 2 inches, you think that´s too high ?

I also went without bar risers b/c these protapers werent a big drop in an aggressive riding position. I love my new setup, I would suggest not to add risers at first to see how you like it. Lower bars give a sportier ride but still a comfotable ride as well

Have you ever taken your crossbrace off and see if the vibes are any different? I've been wanting to get a Renthal crossbrace to see if it reduces the vibes, but I can't find the things anywhere.

I haven't tried that . . . I've been wanting to put a rubber cushion around the handlebars where their held in to the triple tree(can't think of the word right now) just haven't gotten around to it. I imagine there would be more vibes if I took it off.

Would it be good idea to add a rubber pc in between the bars and the bar clamps if the bar clamps are rubber mounted?

hey all,

Just wanted to add my two cents. I have been through three sets of bars to find one that looked aggressive and didnt feel uncomfortable. tried stock, Suburban machinary and renthal ultr lows. the renthals were close but no cigar. finally went with convertibars fully adjustable clip-ons. to each his own but i would suggest that if your looking to take out some vibes in the bars to use Liquid snake in the renthals. It worked great in mine. If you do want to go with risers i have some that i would let go at a fair price. i believe they are one inch or 1-1/2 risers. could send or post pic if interested.

Gi guys!

Thanks alot for the replies! :)

I have been searching the internet for the right handlebar for probably 20 hours now, I guess I am being stupid since my main priority is the looks, not how it may handle.

Anyway I just found a bike with a handlebar setup that I really really liked!

Here is a picture (I hope it`s ok for the owner that I borrowed the pic)

This is JUST the way I want it to look.
I have sent the owner an e-mail asking what handlebar it is, I hope he will answer.

Is it just me or did this look damn good??:)
