  1. '17 seems to baby backfire a lot

    General Ninja 650R
Well now it died when I pulled the clutch at 45 mph yesterday, and then this morning it was idling, and stalled with a backfire. Apparently this is going to require attention. Backfiring indicates that there's spark with an intake valve not closed, or that there's intake/exhaust overlap with...
  2. We Are Live - Community Feedback

    Community Help
The posts lack posting date. It just vaguely says "3 months ago". I really, truly, hate that with a passion. Posts should be concretely dated and timestamped. Especially when posts get older, and all it says is "2 years ago". That's crazy unhelpful, when you are trying to figure out some...
  3. '17 seems to baby backfire a lot

    General Ninja 650R
I will check the air filter and air box, and keep an eye on the other items. This morning, it did a baby backfire as I pulled a 1" micro wheelie from a stop light, and that caused the bike to slam down, quite unsettling. I'm at 7000+ miles now.
  4. Testing the new site

    Off Topic/Fun
I feel like my 27" PC screen has been turned into an oversized tablet. I'm not a big fan of this layout. There aren't enough demarkations between the posts and side bars and whatnot, it's all visually difficult and confusing.
  5. Corbin seat 2017+

    General Ninja 650R
Weird, can't seem to add pics to the first post.
  6. 650 gearing?

    General Ninja 650R
iirc, the 16T actually didn't fit either, it was nicking an integrated chain guard. I had to dremel away 1-2 mm of metal material, then it was fine. No idea why they tried to stop front sprocket changes. Perhaps a close integrated guard stops the chain from balling up in that area if it...
  7. Corbin seat 2017+

    General Ninja 650R
I got one. The stock gel would start causing discomfort after around 45 minutes, and somewhere around 60-75 it gets painful, and by 90 minutes I am scooting around every 15 seconds trying to massage my azz on the seat for relief. The Corbin gunfighter definitely has a different shape from...
  8. 650 gearing?

    General Ninja 650R
I did a +1/-4 (iirc 16T/42T so I guess the new N650's run a smaller front sprocket) and the chain rubbed a bit on the plaster runner along the top of the swingarm. Great for cruising down the freeway, putt putt. -8T is a huuuuge change, I don't think I'd like +1/-8 on my bike. I tried to...
  9. 2019 Ninja 650 backfires through intake

    General Ninja 650R
I've got the same thing, I think my thread is right next to yours.
  10. '17 seems to baby backfire a lot

    General Ninja 650R
I'll try to resurrect the ol' GoPro -- might need to buy a new one. Decel pop is something else. Well, I'm fairly certain it's intake side and not exhaust side. It makes the bike stumble. It tends to only happen at lower revs. No problems flying down the road. But taking that slow corner...
  11. Why is the N650 more fun to lean?

    General Ninja 650R
There's a nearly identical post on another forum comparing MT-10 (grabby clutch, "hard" to launch) vs FJR1300 (easy to launch with gradual clutch engagement). Another factor that was called out is the rotational inertia of the engine. ie, perhaps the Ninja has more flywheel effect, and the 765...
  12. '17 seems to baby backfire a lot

    General Ninja 650R
They aren't huge backfires, but at low rpms it makes the bike jerk when it happens. Is there an easy solution for this? Been like this since I bought the bike. I tried regular and premium gas with no change. Does this mean it's running lean? Bike is 100% stock top to bottom, only oil and...
  13. Motor going - Advice what to do with this bike that doesn't have much resale value

    General Ninja 650R
Oil pressure sensing switch? Wouldn't be the first on to fail. Not sure what the Ninja's arrangement is. And check the oil level ...
  14. Why is the N650 more fun to lean?

    General Ninja 650R
First I just want to point out that I didn't suggest it was more flickable, just that the Ninja felt more "fun" for some reason. Also I'm not talking about compression/rebound, clearly Triumph is better there. Okay I pondered this for a while, and I think I can answer my own question. Beyond...
  15. Why is the N650 more fun to lean?

    General Ninja 650R
Let me explain a little better. I have a wonderful Street Triple 765 RS + nice windscreen that is basically superior to the Ninja in every way except one. The way the Ninja leans side to side feels more satisfying than the 765. Anyone else have a similar observation? The Ninja makes me want...
  16. What you guys think of the new CBR 650R

    General Ninja 650R
Yamaha needs to make a high spec cross plane MT-750 bike.
  17. Transmission issues?

    General Ninja 650R
A quickshifter does this automatically, but otherwise apply pressure with the toe upward, and momentarily close and re-apply throttle, pretty easy. It seems a lot harder to me to emulate an auto-blipper (push and blip throttle for clutchless downshift).
  18. What you guys think of the new CBR 650R

    General Ninja 650R
The new CBR650R has a more sporty body position, more peak power, and an inline-4 sound track, but heavier. If that's what you are looking for, there you go. Ninja 650 is more relaxed, more grunty twin at lower rpms, quieter, and lighter weight. The new zx6r man I can't stand its new nose. I...
  19. Who is using Ninja 650 as a light tourer?

    General Ninja 650R
Timpo what seat do you have. I'm not getting along with my stock '17 seat very well, shades of FZ6R pain but after 75 minutes not 25 minutes, eh.
  20. 2006 650R low fuel economy

    General Ninja 650R
If it's a 180-degree crank and you plug them in backwards, it's possible you're igniting the intake stroke on one side.
