  1. Traded in my 7S on a ZZ-R1200

    Daily Ride
I posted this as a reply to a question in the For Sale forum, but I thought the rest of the crew would be interested in the ZZ-R1200 too. The ZZR is amazing. I am really glad that I made the move. The ZR7 is a really good bike for around town, but I plan on doing some serious touring and needed...

    General For Sale / Trade
ZZR-1200 update The ZZR is amazing. I am really glad that I made the move. The ZR7 is a really good bike for around town, but I plan on doing some serious touring and needed some more power and comfort. (I have a 5000 mile trip planned for this summer) The bike doesn't really feel like...

  5. The original ZR-7 must go...

    Daily Ride
Mine is gone too Well, it's been a great 20,000 miles but it was time to go. I just traded my 2001 7S in on a ZZR-1200. Picked it up last night at 6 pm and I've got 150 miles on her already. (Got to get those 1000 low rev miles out of the way as soon as possible). I sure have enjoyed the...
  6. Elevation changes - Adjustments needed?

    Daily Ride
I am planning a trip this summer to Colorado and Independence Pass (12,095 ft). The elevation where I live in Texas is about 350 ft. Does anyone know if I will need to make any adjustments to the carbs or will the bike perform OK with this extreme elevation change? We will continue up...
  7. Headlight won't adjust

    ZR-7 Maintenance
I had the same problem a few weeks ago. I had turned the undocumented 3rd adjusting screw too many times counterclockwise to try to stop the buzz. But then I couldn't adjust the light. So I turned it back clockwise many times until the buzz was gone again. I was then able to adjust the...
  8. Shouldn't Have Waited So Long to do Valves

    ZR-7 Maintenance
My dealer here in Texas told me I could wait til 10,000 miles for the 1st time to have the valves adjusted. After that service, I talked a mechanic with 20 + yrs of experiance and he said I could wait until 25,000 miles to get it done again.

  10. Muffler mod ... I'm chicken

    ZR-7 Performance Upgrades
Muffler Mod - Just did it. It's been a very busy year and I just got around to removing the 1st Baffle and poking 2 holes in the next plate. The bike seems to accelerate a lot faster if you wrap it up to 8 or 9k RPMs. Does everyone else that has done this mod have the same feeling? Has...
  11. How many miles on Bridgestone BT-020's

    ZR-7 Maintenance
Thanks for the info. My local dealer will also mount them for about $15. So it looks like I will approach them about matching a catalog price just to see if they want the business.
  12. How many miles on Bridgestone BT-020's

    ZR-7 Maintenance
How many miles are you getting out of your Bridgestone BT-020 rear tire? I currently have 5800 miles and I have just about run down to the wear mark in the center of the tire. I have seen prices for them running around $102 - 120. What is the best price that you have seen lately?
  13. Hand Guards

    ZR-7 Accessories
I have had my Hand Guards that Martin made on the bike for a week now. The lowest temp that I have ridden with them so far has been about 38 Deg. I have been able to wear my regular weather gloves and not get frost on my hands. And I feel I have better control with the thinner gloves on...
  14. Hand Guards

    ZR-7 Accessories
It looks like those attach to handlebar mounted mirrors. If so, they won't work on the 2001 models.
  15. Hand Guards

    ZR-7 Accessories
Martin, Thanks for taking the time to post the Pics. They look pretty good. I'll be in touch via your E-mail to order a set soon.
  16. Hand Guards

    ZR-7 Accessories
I like to ride even when it is in the 30's and 40's. I have the right clothing to stay warm but my hands still get cold. I have a pair of warm gloves but the wind can still get thru them. Has anyone installed hand guards to deflect the wind? Or do I need to bite the bullet and buy a...
  17. Driving Lights

    ZR-7 Accessories
Jajamase, I made the brackets from 1/8 " thick 1 1/8 " X 6 " steel stock. It took quite a while to get the bends just right just using a vise and a hammer. The Black paint covers up all the hammer marks.
  18. Driving Lights

    ZR-7 Accessories
I like 'em. But I bet you have to keep messing with the vertical adjustment.
  19. Driving Lights

    ZR-7 Accessories
Scott, Thanks for the compliment. It took quite a while to figure out the best way to mount them and bend the brackets. The lights come with a separate switch that uses a relay to turn on the lights. The attached pic shows the little hole that I tucked the switch into. I didn't want to...
  20. Driving Lights

    ZR-7 Accessories
Martin, I didn't like the yellow light that the original 35 watt lights put out so I replaced them with 55 Watt replacements. With the 35 watt bulbs I would rate them a 5. With the 55 watt replacement bulbs I would give them an 8.
