    Transmission problems

    I have a 2007 Mean Streak 1600 that is giving me transmission problems. Long story short, it has been stored in my heated garage on a battery tender for 2 years without being started. Yesterday I went out and started it. It started right up and I let it get up to temperature before trying to move it. When I put it into 1st it immediately killed the engine. I put it in neutral and it fired right back up. I shut it off and got on here and looked for anything related to my issue and came up with frozen clutch discs. I went back out and fired it up and let the oil get nice and hot and pumped the hell out of the clutch lever and then shut it off and wrapped a bungee cord around the clutch lever and turned it off and let it sit overnight. Today I went back out and pumped the hell out of the clutch before even starting it up. After starting it up, it went right into first. I then put it in neutral and noticed it creeped forward a bit with the clutch level pulled in. My issue is I have no gears from 2nd to 5th. Does anyone think the clutch discs could still be sticking or do I have an issue inside the transmission? I never had any transmission issues when I parked it. I’m hoping a simple clutch replacement will fix my problem before I end up pulling the engine and transmission for a tear down. Any suggestions or recommendations would be greatly appreciated.     If you mean that you don't have 2nd thru 5th with the bike sitting still, that is normal. I think they call it "positive neutral" - it prevents the transmission from shifting from 1st into 2nd when the bike is at a standstill. Once the bike is moving, the system is disengaged and you can shift all you want. In addition to helping the rider find neutral, I guess it also helps prevent the rider from starting out in a gear that could stall the motor.
    The issue of your bike stalling as soon as you put it in 1st (after it had been stored for 2 years) is also pretty normal. Sticking clutch plates. I have learned that when I first put my bike in 1st, I need to have a pretty good grip on the front brake - otherwise it will sometimes lurch forward quite a bit.
    Bottom line, I think you just need to ride more!

    Hey B46. Just wanted to let you know I put some Seafoam in the oil and got it hot and changed the oil and it’s shifting great. My girlfriend and I put 200 miles on it yesterday. Thanks for your help.
