I have a question to ask (for my fiance) about the '77 KZ650. Is it possible to replace the cam chain without splitting the block? We're looking for the easiest way possible to do this.
Thanks in advance!![]()

If he can connect the new chain to the old chain and pull it through, that should work. Just gotta make sure the new cam chain is seated on the crank and then time the cam(s) to the crank (which he'd have to do anyway).... that's what I would (attempt to) do

To replace the camchain without "breaking" the new chain invovles splitting the crankcase.....a big big job
The otherway as Martin indicated involves breaking the chain and pulling the new broken chain through the engine attached to the old chain.
The new chain and new joining link will have to be reriveted, which might be a bit awkward
This repair was done recently here on a ZR7, maybe have a look at search, I think by a UK poster.
Keep us posted on your progress.
