Can anyone tell me how hard is it too dismantle the guages on the 2000 model ZR7 too do the fuel gauge fix? I have the resistor and will be attempting the fix. I had the gauge off once before but was leary of taking the gauge itself apart.Kim

Nothing is done at the fuel gauge itself
The modification entails fitting of a resistor at the fuel gauge sender underneath the fuel tank
Go www.zr-7.com "maintenance tips" and you will see a well presented write up of how to do the job. All you need to do is remove the fuel tank and using the existing screw connections instal the resistor ie no soldering.
The resistor cost is minimal say 1 or 2 dollars (they usually come in packets of 5) and the time do the job is 1/2 hour, cheap and quick would be a better description

....a 3 lb. hammer oughta make short work of that..... and since gg said it's not needed to do the "fix", we'll tough again on this when you go to change instrument light bulbs....Can anyone tell me how hard is it too dismantle the guages on the 2000 model ZR7 too do the fuel gauge fix?![]()

Thank's GG I'll take a look at it in the morning. I think the hammer idea is not my style.Thank's again Kim

Graeme, the tip I followed entailled fitting the resistor to the terminals at the rear of the fuel gauge. Removal of the clocks was straight forward, 1/2 hours work.
Can you give us the details,..... resistor size and wattage connections and the result.
Just looking at the wiring diagram at the sensor there is only a supply and an earth. The supply goes to the fuel gauge so I suppose if the resistor is connected to that fuel gauge supply and the earth the result will be the same. Six of one and half a dozen of the other.

Graeme I changed it at the fuel gauge. It was the two multicolored wires. I left the solid brown alone. It was not a tough job. Took the headlight out, disconnect the 2 connectors and take two nuts off too remove the gauge cluster. Then take bracket off of back. Kim

I guess doing the mod at gauge is easier than lifting the fuel tank.
Somebody should put this alternate method at the "maintenance tips" at zr7 home page.
While you are doing the mod, it would be a good opportunity to check the instrument lights....maybe save a little time later on.
