    Advice on 1st bike purchase

Hey everybody! I'm new here I need some advice. I've been looking for a sport bike recently and an option just came up that I am considering. A guy that I work with texted me and his future son-in-law is selling his 2010 Kawasaki Ninja 650r. He is asking $3500 for it. It has minor damage from when it fell over in a driveway (end broke off clutch handle, minor paint scratches). It has 700 miles on it.

This would be my first bike and I have almost zero experience riding. Just want to know if the price is fair or if I should try to get him a little lower on it. He wants the money to make a down payment on a house so I think the ball is in my court. Let me know what you guys think!

650 is a fine bike to start on. Just be careful not to get caught off guard as it is a quick motorcycle. The one you've found sounds like a pretty good deal, it's kind of hard to believe it's only got 700 miles on it. Basically other than the damage, it should be like brand new. I mean literally, it's like 100 miles out of it's first service! So look for signs that the bike's condition both skin deep and below match what the odometer says.

NADA is around $3200-4200 for my zip code. If the bike checks out (drapes match the curtains) I'd try to get it for $3k. It's gonna need some servicing, probably all new fluids and that sort of thing. Basically understand the damage from the drop, any part is probably replace and that adds up quick. Oh, and keep in mind this is the end of the season so it's really a buyer's market at this point.

I agree with Vic if you cant go wrong if the bike is what they say it is and if u are interested in doing your own service on it the 650 is great bike to learn for that a lot of good info and videos out there. Good Luck.

Keep in mind that it is 7 years old and all the time based service needs to be performed.
Skill is what keeps you on two wheels.

Situational awareness combined with skill is what keeps you out of harm's way.

ATGATT combined with Situational Awareness and Skill means you might live to ride another day when that deer runs into your bike or that drunk blows through that stop sign.

Also, that damage....it may not be much, but damaged is damaged, and the bike is not worth the nada price when its damage other than minor scratches and ordinary wear.

The fairing damage is fairly expensive to repair.

He posted in November that he ended up buying the bike. Hasn't posted since. I'll hope for the best.
