Question on the Digital Display 2012 650

I have had my 2012 650 for about two weeks now. I have three hundred miles on it already!!! I have noticed that when I cycle through the functions on the digital display, despite the fact that the MGG is displayed (54 today!) the remaining Range is displayed as -----. Is there something that I am supposed to do to reset this? It has never displayed the remaining range in the time that I have had the bike. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    thanks
    Scott

Okay, I solved it. Spoke to the service department who spoke to the engineers at Kawasaki and they say that the bike must be running for the range to read. If you are parked and idling then you would just get ----. FYI

Thanks for that.. Ive only had my bike for a couple of weeks, and Ive been wondering, too, why my cruising range is only showing up as '-----'. I only check it when Im idling, as i dont like to play with the gauges while Im riding. Thanks for clearing that up!! Now I dont have to post yet another noob question!!

Got mine on August 1st. Working on 450 miles. The one thing I wish the display had is a gear indicator. It could be in the little spot where the useless "ECO" indicator is.

Yea. I agree... Have to downshift gingerly without knowing what gear we're in.. When coming to a stop, I always down shift all the way until my foot cant go any lower.. Sometimes, I even kick up one checking for neutral, to make sure Im in first, ready to take off. If you try and match revs while downshifting, and do it and do it carefully, you should be able to stay out of trouble, ie, wheel lockups from sudden engine breaking generated by bad downshifts, etc.

BTW, congrats on all your miles.. I suspect that means youve done some highway riding... Im still riding back roads, and some traffic, but havent gotten it over 55mph yet... A little hesitant still to try for the interstates/hwys.. Im also still shopping for a proper helmet. Im using a Bilt 3/4 with full face shield for now, which is what I bought to take the MSF course a month ago, and its ok for the hot weather, but doesnt afford the protection of a helmet with a chin guard, ie full face or modular... Now Im searching for a well fitting modular, as I think that style should make it an easier fit over glasses than a full face.... But with a medium oval headshape, Im having a little trouble getting a good fit... I have a Nolan N104 coming into Cycle Gear to try on... Hope that ends my search.. I know its supposed to be about the best modular around, but, that doesnt guarantee a good fit!

Some highway myself...but my bf is also helping me break her in (because he likes to ride her...says she is very "flickable" haha). I've gotten up to 64 for a short time...really trying to vary the speed. But it is a big mix of town riding, parking lot, and two-laners. The low-speed practice is like math homework for me, so I have to be able to balance that with fun (aka curvy two-laners)!

My helmet sucks right now. I want to save up for a carbon fiber full-face. I have a Suomy modular now. I hate it. Heavy and it hurts my forehead after 30 or so minutes. Not to say that all modulars would be that way, but I have found that I never leave my helmet on with it open. I take it off at every stop anyway, so i might as well go with a full-face...
