Smile Z1000 Exhaust Ideas!?!?!?!

Hey! I am very new to this board, and was happy to see so many Z ridders on it! I have a very stock Orange 2003, and need a different muffler setup bad! What brand do you have? How does it sound? Any noticiable Hp gains? I don't have alot of $$$, but have seen some good deals on slip-ons from online stores. As much as I would like to shop local, these online stores blow the locals out of the water\snow! I definaly am not interested in a whole system at this time, and would like to keep the dual-can look. Right now, Yoshimura looks to be the best deal, with a few cheaper choices(but those are brands i havn't even heard of) I'm just worried that the Yoshimura is too cheap, or not a noticable change over stock sound. Thanks for your time and thoughts!

Just about any aftermarket exhaust is noticably louder than stock. Just mostly a matter of personal brand preference, how it looks, and of course sound preference. I suggest going to Youtube a search Z1000 exhaust and listen to a few.

I agree with that. Cutting your pipes is cheap and sounds good too.

I've seen many many youtube videos, those are endless I think. I don't know about cutting the stock ones. I figgured if anything I could re-sell those on e-bay, besides, i'm not too crazy about the dual-dual stock pipes. I prefer the sound from the aftermarket ones over the shortened stockers. This video brings me smiles: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7TycqWFszUk Keep you thoughts and opinions comming!!!

Found my Muzzy slipons....

....on Ebay from ZK owner switching from slipons to a full system. Don't forget the K&N air filter--once you release the backpressure, the bike will be craving more air flow. Plus even without the airbox mod, you'll be able to hear the intake moan...

I ended up going with Two Brothers M-5 Titaniums because I thought they looked and sounded the best. No regrets here, I love em.

If you're looking for something that performs the best I would look into a full Akrapovic or Arata exhaust.

When I was searching for an exhaust, I would see a set of Jardine carbon fiber slip-ons on ebay, brand new, for $500. I always thought it was a heck of a deal, don't know if they're still selling them or not.

Edit: Did a search on ebay, that deal is nowhere to be found anymore

I was too broke to by a full system or even a slip-on... for $150 in parts and labor... I tweaked a mod and made it my own... the single-sided, inverted R6 mod...

I too like my Two Brothers M-5's. I got the carbon fiber ones. They look good, sound good, and have an option for the insert which will make it slightly quieter.

If you cut it, take out the KLEEN system too. There's a thread somewhere here that shows the cables behind the side covers that control the airflow and stuff to the exhaust.

Those cables don't control airflow to the exhaust, so they aren't the Kleen system. They are there for low end torque increase. They increase or decrease back pressure of the exhaust and help improve torque down low, then open up at higher RPM's, so they don't restrict airflow out, and hurt the HP. At least this is my understanding...
I removed mine when I did my exhaust, and once I got it tuned, I wasn't even able to tell a difference. It pulls like a train at any RPM now...

The ones I'm lookin at are M-2's. How are these different that the M'5's. This is what I was affraid of, is people might suggest a make of a pipe, but that company offers different models of that pipe. I did a search on e-bay for the m-5, and nothing, just the inserts for them. Is that an older pipe? Thanks again for your infomation!
