Aux gas tank

Hello everybody

I have had my Z for going on 6 years now. Absolutly LOVE it. The only thing that I do not like about her is the limited fuel range. I do a lot of long distance rides and I find that having to stop for fuel every 250 Km is a drag. I usually carry a 10L jerry can with me in case no stations are around when I need one but I am looking at setting up a "removable" auxiliary gas tank that I could plumb into the fuel tank supply line. That way I could transfer fuel from the secondary fuel tank to the main fuel tank while riding.

Has anybody done this on a Z?

I was interested in doing this last summer before my trip to Florida. But I was kind of glad I didn't, because I don't think I could have sat much more than 2 hours (which was how long I could go between stops).

A quick Google lead me to Tour Tanks...check out the third bike down on the following page (the aux tank is hidden well): http://www.tourtank.com/

Looks like you're smuggling a keg.

also see:

http://www.justgastanks.com/store/ <- select Auxiliary Gas Tanks - they have Aluminum, Steel or Plastic category to browse through.

I've thought about this as well, but I was usually getting around 140-150 miles to a tank. So that usually would equal about 2 hours of riding and by that time I was ready for a break anyway. Good luck in your search and if you come up with anything make sure you take some pics for us!

My idea was to just build something up from the gas cap, serving double duty as extra fuel and a tank bag. Don't know how to do it, but its a neat idea.
